I have a couple candidates for a position in my family's business.  I'd like to pre-screen them for possible criminal history.  I have the Names and SSN's but did not get birth dates.  Can I do this?

I'm half tempted to take the two candidates to the gun shop and see if they can pass the NCIC check.

Better yet!!! Make it a job requirement for them to have a current license to carry firearms!

If they each purchase a gun.

Passing an FBI NICS check only means there is no record of a felony, disqualifying misdemeanor conviction or active warrants in the databases that the NICS system has access to. It doesn't mean they have never been convicted of a crime.

UPDATE:  It would have flagged both of my candidates.

I'll answer my own damn phones

An illegal immigrant with fake papers and no criminal background "hits" will sail right on through also.

Stay safe

Candidate #1

This gem has no felony convictions in PA .... but through a check in the Clerk of Courts for Bucks County I find court records for her "Fugitive from Justice" court apperance worth $250K bail.  She waived extradition.  Looking at the resume I find her last out-of-state address and see she's got close to a dozen arrests for a variety of causes.  Parole violation was the big winner ... burglery and B&E were close runners up ... first arrest and conviction was for driving without a license.

Candidate #2

Admitted during the interview that she got busted for shoplifting when she was younger.  She was stealing cold medicine for her niece.  Getting this job would "Change her life".
A scan of the court records shows her shoplifiting was in 2003 and a quantity large enough to send her to Bucks county prison after her appearance in County court ... not in a local District court.
Her 1999 arrest was for manufacture/distrobution/intent to distribute illeagle substances.

Gee... what do you think she does in her spare time??? Who said "Cook Meth"? .... Which one of you scumbags accused this poor woman who wants to start a new life of cooking meth?

Oh ... wait a second ... it was me.  Sorry about the "scumbag" comment.
