Dean: We have no gun control in Vermont and we don't need any here because we have one of the lowest homicide rates in America. [red]I do support the federal legislation we have such as the assault weapons ban, the Brady bill and so forth[/red]. What I don't support is the notion of one size fits all legislation that would tell Vermont that they should have the same gun control as they have in New York City. My attitude is we will have the federal laws, we will keep them and enforce them, and then let every state have as little or as much as they want. So, if New York or California wants lots of gun control let them have, they need it. However, if Wyoming, Vermont and Montana don't have to have gun control and don't want it, then why should they have anymore then the federal government already has. Now, I do support the Brady Bill, the assault weapons ban and closing the gun control loophole because I don't think it makes sense for criminals to have access to guns. I think that we really have to avoid the idea that we are going to have one bill that fits the whole country because some parts of the country don't need gun control and some do [/b] CRC |
