| I am writing a paper on Human Cloning for my Persuasive Writing class and I was just wondering what kind of opinions the citizens of ARFCOM had on the subject. |
|
I'm just afraid someone will consider Ted Kennedy or Hillary Klinton eligible candidates for cloning and the world will slip ever closer to hell on earth. But joking aside sgtar15 has an extemely valid point - human cloning could be the inbreeding of the 21st century. Imagine the new fad of the future - "Why procreate with a stranger? Have a clone child of yourself." |
Human cloning, if ever realized, would never become the dominant form of reproduction. It is too expensive and a lot less fun. The real value of it is its therapeutic possibilities, i.e. stem cells. |
+1
We think... Honestly I hope it does yield some beneficial results, but we were also told we'd be driving hover cars by now etc. etc. etc. |
|
I think that when the time comes that cloning a human is possible, that a lot of places around the world will strictly outlaw it. All the places that won't make laws against it won't have enough of a civilization to have the facility unless a rich mad scientist goes for it. Just my thought. The real value will be the ability to clone to clone individual organs. Think of every medical condition that can be fixed just by swapping out organs that are able to be GROWN. No waiting on the donor list, no worrying about matching, and rejection. |
I agree on the stem cells current laws are actually limiting recearch in any medical recearch fields due to the lack of stem cells for study ( they have to be imported from canada ).

I suspect there are several labs working feverishly on the problem now - some are seeking a superior master race, some are seeking spare parts, some are seeking money from victims that want to "live on" after their normal life span ends, some are probably just screwing around using "sicentific pursuit" as an excuse with no thought to the consequences. I wonder where the US government's labs are located. |
|
I believe cloning technology is essential for the understanding of the universe in general...I beleive it vital to understand how and why DNA does what it does.....the medical benefits of cloning are too important to lay undiscovered.....WAY TOO IMPORTANT. As for some mad scientist types willing to abuse it??? That's what the military is for....we whooped Nazi's once and we can do it again. |
You bring in a very valid point and accept the fact that it may be abussed. That is very sensible of you. SGat1r5 |
| I do not think it could be abused. Cloning would be very expensive and even if you could do it on a major scale you would still have to raise the little Hitlers to adulthood. The $ involved would be so great it would be more effective just to conscript peasants. |
One of these days I am hoping they'll let me run the planet...... |
I said your statement was sensable...you however are an ASSHAT Sgtar15 |
|
Anyone who is worried about pathological or genomic consequences should take a freshman year biology course and have their fears assuaged. I work in a related field and can say that there is very little to fear from cloning. In fact some of you may already have clones in your family - they are called identical twins. All cloning someone would imply is the creation of an identical twin with a large age offset. Chill y'all. |
