I have a metal gun cabinet that I used to have in the garage, but it's really humid down there and takes in water some when it rains hard. So I moved the cabinet into a closet, but the closet it near the shower.

Do you think this will be a problem? Also, should I leave the guns in cases when storing in the cabinet or just have the guns by themselves? I remember one thread about foam causing rust? Should I use some desecants in the closet and cabinet?

And when you turn right in the hallway is the shower

I know I need a safe, but don't really have money for a good one right now.

No practical amount of dessicants will help with that setup. I'd just look for another location.

ETA: If you keep the bathroom door closed when you shower, they should be OK.

Keep the closet and bathroom door closed when using the shower, run the fart fan when you're done, and keep the rifles out of the cases. Given your conditions, those are the best steps I can think of.

I kept my guns in a walk in closet that was attached to our bathroom with a shower. No door between bathroom and closet area.

Within a couple weeks, I started seeing rust spots on some.

I bought a safe and moved them out.

I live at a beach where the average humidity is around 60%. It slacks off in the winter oddly enough but the rest of the time is is pretty moist.

I just pull out the 2 guns I have, a .22 and a .38, and oil them twice a year, no issues so far after 30 years.
YMMV - Keep the door closed during showers.

I'd keep the door shut and use desiccants. Just keep a light coat of oil on everything like you would normally and you should be good to go until you can buy a safe.

Well the mossberg 500 I had in a foam case in the cabinet in the basement had started rusting so idk if this'll be better

Don't put your guns in the case while storing them. Bad JuJu.

Yea I remember the thread I think it was someone's glock stored in the factory case while deployed and it was rusted to hell.

get a brand new clean rag, soak it in oil, and wipe the guns down, use another clean dry rag to wipe off excess oil. store oily rag in a ziplock bag.

If not there already, how hard would it be to put an outlet in that closet and a small dehumidifier?
If there are any outlets on the outside walls of the closet it should be pretty easy to add a second outlet right behind it.
