Yes, 30 minutes past shooting light.

Most wardens on not going to be sticklers about the exact minute you shot though, as environmental conditions affect visibility that time of day greatly (cloudy, full moon, etc).  Friday night was a well lit night and visibility was good up to 7:45.  If it is ascertained he made the shot after legal shooting light he should be charged, but lack of light should not have been an issue that evening, particularly in open field.

That’s 16 injuries per 100,000 participants and .4 deaths per 100,000 participants annually.

Compare that to bowling that has about 30 injuries per 100,000 participants or football that has 1 death per 100,000 participants annually.

Which means, compared to hunting, about twice as many people get hurt bowling and twice as many people die playing football every year.

A hunter dies falling out of a tree stand, that's a risk of the activity. Football player dies taking a hard block, risk of the activity.

IA is half hour before sunrise to half hour after sunset. You have to check sunset time for the area you're hunting and half an hour to that.

My rule is hunt until sunset. That allows for one last shot if I shot a deer late in the day and it's not dead yet.

No one’s asking you to tolerate anything.

OP asked if these kinds of accidents are common. The numbers say they are not.

In fact, they are rare enough to be considered statistical anomalies.

Dont know about Delaware.  Here (Montana) the state is divided into 7 administrative regions.  Each region has published sunrise & sunset tables effective over the entire region.  Those are the legal sunrise / sunset times, actual immediate sunrise / sunset don't count.  So if your handy gps based watch says sunrise where your feet are is 7:04 am, but the fwp table says it's 7:08 for the region, its 7:08.

It was an open field, for starters.

It was a family, not a lone person. Multiple people.

Sunset was 40 minutes BEFORE the old guy shot the woman.

Old guy, poor eyesight, hunting after legal hours, shot at a target that wasn’t actually a deer.

You’re right- a small amount of sense would have stopped this from happening, but that fucking moron from Maryland had NONE.

Let’s run the numbers. (As per google, of course)

Hunting results in roughly 2400 er visits per year resulting in roughly 60 deaths per year with roughly 15,000,000 hunters going afield annually.
