I use digital hygrometers that are adjustable

The brand isn't really all that important IMO.

Xikar
Humicare
HygroSet

plus one or two no-name brands

They all work the same and last about the same length of time.....about 2-3 years

I had a digital hygrometer that came with my Italian Mastro de Paja humidor, but it died after about a dozen years.  I've been running a little adjustable digital 'puck' that does temperature and humidity and it works fairly well, for not a lot of cash.

Take a damp wash cloth, or bunch of paper towels, get them wet, wring them out and place them in a sealed zip lock baggie along with your hygrometer and see if it moves up towards 80%+, which is where it should be after a couple/few hours.

Depends on what you want to use it for. Cigar humidor? Weather? Tracking the humidity in your house? Shooting?

Different best units per use.

Its for my gun safe. I have a dehumidifier but my dessicant packs keep turning pink in like 2 days after recharging them. I dont want to have a rust issue.

I consider my safe well protected with a big bag of silica gel (kitteh litter) and heat rod but really I am blind as to the humidity inside..... so tagboom

Go to DX.com, get 2 or 3 for $2-5 that display temp and humidity.

Verify with salt calibration/test. I've never had one from that site that was more than 5% off.

The little black ones for ~$5 are tiny and perfect for humidors.
