Try bobtailing one from Scranton, PA to Gary, IN. I needed to go to Gary to pick up a new truck and that old International needed to go be retired because Haliburton was buying every cabover they could lay hands on to send to Iraq for contractor convoy work.
I got to Gary in the evening and could not pick up m new truck until the following morning. But the next morning when I went to the garage that old cabover had been cleaned, all company markings removed, the ECU reflashed to factory specs and it was parked ready for the driveaway company to stack with 3 other cabovers to take to the port.
I heard interesting stories about Haliburton drivers fighting to see who got to drive those old Schneider and JB Hunt cabovers when they showed up in Kuwait. US-spec trucks with cold AC, air ride suspension, air-ride cabs and air ride seats versus spring-ride seat and suspension Volvos, Manns and DAFs with Euro AC systems must have been a big improvement.
And I heard the Hadjis couldn't wait to try out an RPG on the first condo cabovers they saw. Supposedly the warhead would go through both cab walls and explode after passing through the opposite side of the cab. Flimsy fiberglass and sheet aluminum cabs couldn't even offer enough resistance to set off the warheads.
