I know what it is but I always enjoy threads where we get to guess and learn of other species. This little guy was behind my workshed just chilling out. He is pretty small but they do get bigger, as in an adult one could probably eat this one.

Anyway here ya go.

This one was almost ten inches long.

I managed to sneak him to about five feet, when I snapped the pic the audio electronic shutter set him off and he took off at warp nine!
I need to turn off that stupid electronic shutter sound....

I dunno.
But looks just like the ones that used to hang out on  my favorite "ladys" wall in Olongapo.
She was very protective of them.

It is one of hundreds of species of anole lizards.  Look it up.   A few years ago all the ones we saw on our patio in Houston were green or brown, they could change colors.  Lately they are mostly dark and have stripes down their backs so I think there has been a takeover.  Anoles tend to be very territorial and the males do some interesting movements as the claim their territory and seek mates.

I sit our on the patio and watch them every day. Many lately are very small so a new hatch must have occurred.  Even when they are barely larger than the insects they eat they have the instinct to eat smaller live insects.  I don't mess with them and they don't seem to be worried about my presence.

Its a Cuban Knight Anole. Not native to here. Then again many animals aren't native around here anymore.
