Please tell me u gave her a whack mid shit. You fuckin' bet I did. That dog got whacked and she knew it was on like mother fuckin' Donkey Kong. She fuckin' ran away trailing a giant shit ball from her ass like I was the goddamn dog version of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. The downside of having a German Shepherd is that her shits are like fuckin' mountains. If I was an ant that motherfucker would be a 14er and I'd need fuckin oxygen to get to the top That makes it even worse! |

You need to crate train her. This is an owner problem, not a dog problem. The beating was VERY bad, as she is now terrified of you. You need to learn how to train a dog. I know damn well how to train a dog but sometimes, unfortunately, the anger gets the best of me. I did smack her one the ass while she was in mid-shit but I didn't beat her - and if it came across that way it was again due to my anger. I got rid of the crate because she was doing 100% for a few weeks (and it was taking up a lot of space in my apartment). She was on a schedule - go out before I go to bed and eliminate. I dunno what changed tonight but I could hear something amiss out here - I come out and find the dog shitting on my carpet. She's not afraid of me, but a beating, you're correct, would change that most quickly. ETA - I still don't see where you guys got that I "beat" my dog, however. Excellent mastery of the jump to conclusions mat. |

Quoted: Quoted: your dog will poop outside if you let her out I JUST FUCKIN LET HER OUT - FUCK! Animal takes x hours to process food. You need to observe your animal and time feeding to suit. Sounds like you are a slacker and giving the poor dog hell because you have not done your job. Type of food ingested can alter the times. Get with the fuckin program trainee! |

The next one is , instead of smacking your dog you should have yelled no and taking the dog outside right away . The dog would have stopped when you yelled no. When you brought it outside and it finished .... praise it. Don't say you know how to train a dog when you don't. By your actions in this thread ...you don't know how. |

Please, explain these actions again hoss. I'd be amazed at your mastery of the internet to learn the habits of a person. The dog was in mid shit. The dog stopped shitting after a smack on the ass. The dog was taken outside. The dog finished shitting. The dog was praised. I came to a computer to rant about this instead of taking it out on my dog. The caps, the anger, the rhetoric - all on a forum so as to expunge the emotion. The dog was on the same schedule, with the same food, with the same timing as every night. For some reason, tonight was apparently different. The dog still recognizes me as the alpha, her as the submissive one in this relationship. She comes when I call, sits when I tell her to sit, and does so without hesitation. She had a slipup, I had a slipup, and neither of us are dumber for our slipups. But please, continue to extoll the fact that you've never messed up with a dog in your life. I'm sure you've never gotten angry and slipped up before because you have mastered human emotion. |

I have not , I trained German Shepherds for a living . K9 unit for the state If you need any help feel free to IM me. A German Shepherd is a working dog and really doesn't do well in an apartment setting . Just walk or run him everyday and you should be okay. If he is a European German Shepherd that is a working dog. If you went with a American show line that will do better in an apartment setting. |

I find it hard to believe that you have never messed up with a dog. Either way, if I came off as an ass, I apologize. I'm still a bit hyped over the whole thing because she was doing so goddamn well for so long...I just don't know what came over her. I've trained a lot of dogs in my short time on this Earth so far, but this is the most challenging I've faced yet. She eats at the same time every day, the same amount every day, and goes out at the same time every day. Runs 5 miles(ish) with my wife every day. But the dog still acts out like she's bored - chews random things (my drumsticks were a casualty the other day), eats food off the counter after being reprimanded previously (Cesar Milan style, dog on her back, etc etc), and things like that. I think a lot of it stems from the house we rescued her from - a methed out lady who had like 6 dogs. Still working on her. She's 2.

She's 2. ![]() I guess my definition of messing up is different , I have never hit one. You never want a Shepherd to be afraid of your hand. No reason to apologize You rescued her , good on you. It's going to take time , sounds like she had a bad home before . Just stay with it and keep a very short lead on her in the house when she jumps on the counter. Don't use your hand ( edit) to push her down , pull her down by the short lead . A few things that will help is eat first in the house and let her see you do that. Never feed her first. Also always be the first one out the door when taking her outside. They are great dogs and you will have a loyal friend for the rest of her life. Good luck with her. |

your dog will poop outside if you let her out I JUST FUCKIN LET HER OUT - FUCK! Did you stay with her until she went? Dogs require personal discipline from you in their training. You must be willing to sacrifice your time and your sanity for them. Be consistent. I always used key words in training and used them from then on. It is up to you to encourage the dog to do what you wish and you must maintain your temper. |

You fail at dog ownership. Why not see if someone else, perhaps with the time & patience to do the job can take over? You're doing your dog no favors. If it's shitting inside and provoking violence from you, the dog is unhappy that it doesn't know its place or the rules, and you seem incapable of giving it the structure it needs to understand. Not everyone is cut out for it. Buck up and admit it, and the dog will have a better life and you'll have a poop-free carpet. |
