Post-Tribune staff report Lance Battreal and Mark Booher, two escapees of the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, are this week's fugitives of the week. Battreal, 45, of Rockport, is serving a 53-year prison sentence for rape, criminal confinement and stalking. His projected release date was Oct. 16, 2047. Mark Booher, 46, from New Castle, is serving an 85-year sentence for murder and robbery. His projected release date was May 11, 2041. The nature and circumstances surrounding the July 12 escape are under investigation, but it appears Battreal, Booher and a third inmate who was captured Monday escaped by getting past the bars in the tunnel and pipe chases under the prison grounds. Both escapees should be considered dangerous. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the fugitives should call the task force at (888) 805-6119, or their local law enforcement agency. No updates on the fugitives were reported Sunday by the Indiana State Prison or the Indiana Department of Corrections. "The last I was told we were on standby. We're waiting for leads to come in," prison spokeswoman Pamela James said. "We're trying to identify people they knew," Doug Garrison, chief of communications for the Indiana Department of Correction, said. "We're looking over their visitation list, looking at relatives, friends, and letters and calls. It's a slow process. "We plan to see this on 'America's Most Wanted' Saturday," Garrison said. "That usually generates a lot of hits." The television program is scheduled to air at 8 p.m. Saturday on Fox. http://www.post-trib.com/news/1673831,fug-battreal0720.article |
