Anyone use the ITW Fastmag? I'm looking to get a single mag pouch for my vest and came upon these.

They're around $30 so I figured I'd ask before jumping on them.

Tag. Looks potentially interesting. I couldn't find any pictures of it in use, though.

Seen it at local tactical matches, and throughout the internet.

I have a couple. They work excellently. Can't compare them to anything else, but I have no complaints either.

Retention is perfect, they stay tight to my belt.

Ok, now they look familiar, thanks. The ones in the link must be an updated design with the molle slots.

Welcome to 2006.

Used properly, an ITW fastmag is not used as a magazine pouch, but rather as a "staging area" for a magazine.

I have one on my chest rig... My mags are all stowed securely in good pouches, but when not doing crazy shit (jumping out of planes and such), you stage a magazine in it to allow for a faster reload.

Generally, you're not going to burn through two magazines without having time to "re-stage" another magazine from your stowed mags into the fastmag. If you do burn through two that fast, you just switch to burning up your stowed magazines, as you would be doing without the fastmag.

Basically, let's say you have four mag pouches and a fastmag... You basically have the staging area (fastmag), followed by stowed mag slots 1, 2, 3 and 4. 1 being the easiest (left most for a right hander) stowed slot to get to, 4 being the hardest. You empty your stowed slots from hardest to get to to easiest when refilling the staging area. The only exception to this is if you re-stow a partial magazine into your stowed slots (in which case, you always want the least full magazine placed in the hardest slot to get to, 4 in this case), and so on down the stowed slots. You always want to keep a full magazine in the staging area when time allows, unless there are none left. If your staging area is empty and you need to do a reload, you always go to slot 1 unless you've already emptied it and haven't had time to move all your magazines a slot to the left during a lull... So on, and so forth.

This is a skill which takes considerable practice to do properly. But done correctly, it makes sure you always have the "most ideal" arrangement of reloads possible.

I'm really too tired to explain this science of this shit right now... Hope you get the idea.
