...Socialism and Marxism. One of my wife's friends is dating this guy who is a full blown self-proclaimed Marxist. Never actually met one that was up front about it before though. The funny thing to me is that he considers him self part of the proleteriat, but drives a Jaguar and lives in a $2000 a month apartment. Which I am sure how he sees everyone living after the great social revolution. He honestly was trying to tell me that everyone should be equally paid for their unit of labor, whether it was a guy makeing a chair or a car. That's pretty much it, just letting everyone know I hate communism. |
Next time you see him, relieve him of his wallet, and take his cash. Tell him you are doing so because you didn't bring any money and you want to make things equal. |
My subscription is almost up, and I may use that for my avatar after I re-up. |
Was no difference in 82... P.S. I hate communists too... |
| I'm trying to read the Communist Manifesto right now. It shouldn't really take long, since its very short, but I can only read about two pages before my bloodpressure forces me to put it down. Marx was a self-aggrandizing ass, with an idiotic philosophy. Anyone who ascibes to his theories is mentally deficient. |
Go to your local university campus....plenty of mental deficients behind the lectern |
I'm a graduate student- thankfully in a technical field. |
| and unfortunately, is seems most of the youth in this country want marxism, communism, etc...But since they have no clue about anything to do with it other than damn this looks really good on paper, they can still shut the F*** up... Thank god most of them don't vote anyway. I really don't think trying to turn us into communist will go over very well, but it does seem we are very very very slowly heading that way. |
The Economics of Star Trek It starts out with an excellent summary of Marx's Communist Manifesto, then it goes on to prove that the Federation in Star Trek is Marxist. Good read. |
But they have replicators and cheap power sources in Star Trek--they don't need money. ![]() I always liked the Ferengi the best... |
|
Don't ruin it for me, k? |
I've got that one. |
Replicators still need raw materials to make things from (they cannot create elements, they can only combine them into different materials; an example is the raw food stock starships and space stations are constantly restocking. They take the raw materials and combine them into edible food. They also cannot replicate complicated machinery and numerous materials are impossible to replicate.). Cheap power sources? How do you know they're cheap? The only power sources you see are onboard starships and space stations, both of which are owned and operated by the military. And considering that warp cores tend to explode if you poke them with a sharp stick... Plus, have you SEEN Earth in the TNG/DS9/VOY era? It sucks. There's no air traffic (all vehicles are state-owned), no ground traffic except pedestrians, the sidewalks are crumbling, and the place looks like crap. This isn't a post-scarcity utopia. And the Federation DOES use money; they use "credits" for trade within the Federation, but they're not used often and they have little value. For trade with people outside the Federation, they end up resorting to a primitive barter system (some sort of bio-gel, gold-pressed latinum, medical supplies, technology, etc.) instead of converting from one currency to another. You know, kind of like trying to buy something in the US or western Europe with rubles in 1960. |
You and your wife should double date with her friend and her friend's dating interest. He shouldn't have a problem picking up the entire tab. I mean, if he has a $2000/month rent and a Jag, he certainly is "those according to their ability" and you can play the role of "according to their need". Should be fun for everyone! |
Reading that reinforces why I like the TOS and first 6 movies over the rest. It seems to be less communist. If that's even a good thing. |
That is a good idea, I will run it by the wife next time. |
Kirk's era was patriotic (the Federation was the US, Klingons were the USSR, Romulans were the ChiComs, etc.), gung-ho, common sense, pro-freedom, and yes, they had money. When Kirk needed to bend the rules to do The Right Thing, by golly, he did it. By the TNG era, you've got rampant Marxism and Picard refused to save an entire planet from being exterminated TWICE because it would violate the Prime Directive, which evolved from a loose guideline of "don't exploit less-developed cultures" in the TOS era to holy writ that said "thou shalt let others kiss thine ass unless their technology be as advanced as yours". DS9? Sisko was constantly giving speeches about his little guilt trips for actually having the balls to blow the shit out of someone who needed it. Oh, and he was an accessory to murder so he could cover up a conspiracy to get another species to commit genocide on yet another species so the Federation could win the war. And then there's Voyager. Janeway. Mentally unstable. Incompetent. And with an ego so large that she once went back in time basically just to win an argument with herself. Oh, and she loves her some genocide too. And the Prime Directive? It only applies if it involves preventing people from dying en masse. If violating it means Janeway gets to kill people in job lots, well heck, screw the Prime Directive! And yet ten episodes later, she will (in an egotistical speech) tell someone that she's never violated the Prime Directive or other rules of Star Fleet and she'll actually believe herself. And if you want to get into the Enterprise era, pre-TOS, you've got Jonathon Archer. A man whose ego surpasses Janeway's, hears things that aren't there, rambles like a deranged hobo, doesn't bother hiding his racism, is incompetent, will do stupid things that risk the lives of the entire ship's crew just to spite someone for suggesting an alternative course of action, and talks to animals as if he expects them to talk back. Man. Kirk would have walked up to Picard, Sisko, and Archer, kicked their asses, and taken their women. He'd have just looked at Janeway and laughed mockingly before nailing some hot ensign. |
Were German steel mills some sort of bizarro world in which Marxism was not completely fucking stupid? I'm not sure what your point was. |
Marx was an academic intellectual. 'nuff said. |
|
And Hitler was a failed painter. The lesson: Never trust a liberal arts major. |

Read about the worm named Marx right here. He lived by getting money for nothing. Inheritances, marriage, donations from allies. Kind of like todays libs. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_marx |
If I die on the Russian front....Bury me with a Russian_ _ _ _ " Gents, don't waste your time, thier Women are deadlier than thier men, Thier men have ideas about gaining advantages, thier Women just want control of thier Men... Don't hesitate if you have a pretty Russian gal in your line of fire, and don't take a chance on surrender.." The Soviet is not dead. He is alive and well, just as Trotsky wrote. No, not Paranoid. Just paying attention. S/F S-28 |
