My daughter lost MS Office on her computer over the weekend. I figured that I would purchase and down load from Microsoft. The website said purchase and download now. Great!!! I tried to make the purchase, and it wanted an outlook account. I had to make that. Then I did the purchase. Then it asked me to sign in on my Microsoft account. password is not valid WTF??? Send an e-mail asking to reset password. then I get a verification code. Try to sign back in but since I just reset my Microsoft account password, they wanted my to go through the whole thing again.
This shit is worse than trying to do a federal tax form. I decided to get a refund and go elsewhere. That took me another hour. I will never but anything from Microsoft again. My next computer will be a MAC, and will take out the old one and shoot holes through it. I have mad hundreds of on line purchases and have never seen anything so overly complicated. It almost seems as they try to throw obstacles in front of you to keep you from buying anything. |

I agree 100% with OP. I have been in IT for 25 years (retired now) and Microsoft has just gone plain crazy with all the registering you have to do , the long product keys you have to enter and such.
Makes me glad I am out of this crap. Customers were spending more time F'ing with software companies crap than working! |

What is it with computer programmers? is it a game to keep changing and hiding everything? Why can't they keep anything simple? When they find something that works well and is simple, they feel that they have to change it. This business plan would cause any other business to fail. Imagine going to the store and to get in you had to walk through a maze, they everything was hidden and constantly relocated. they would fail in 5 minutes. Do the computer programmers has some sort of mental deficiency? |
|
If you don't like it then you're just no good at using computers, etc. Whatever you do, don't buy a Mac and end up like one of those Apple fanboys who likes everything Apple makes no matter how much it sucks. Be that way about Microsoft instead, because that's totally different.

Do the computer programmers has some sort of mental deficiency? If the programmers designed the interface it wouldn't change, it would just suck the same way for the entire life of the product. But that's no good for marketing. Slap a sticker on something that says, "NEW AND IMPROVED" and people will buy it. It sucks but that's the way it is. |

Do the computer programmers has some sort of mental deficiency? Actually, they DO this is stores. You never noticed at stores like Wally World, they will all of a sudden move everything around. It is a planned move to get you to see new stuff and buy it (As to whether it works, is in doubt). Or have you ever noticed how car companies will move the fuel and temp gauges from left to right and vice versa. Or change the layout of the radio and A/C knobs, Change, just to be changing. You have lots and lots of middle and upper management that have to make changes just to justify their jobs! THAT is what is really boils down to. And those at the top love it because they have a whole "new" (Really SOS) product to sell! |

It has to do with wasting so much of my time with setting up accounts, putting in keys, registering this and that, removing adware pre-installed by the manufacturers, etc.... There are many out there that have nothing to do but sit at their desks and play with the new things and games on their new toy. But some of us actually would like to stay PRODUCTIVE! |

Do the computer programmers has some sort of mental deficiency? I'm sure it has nothing to do with supporting millions of customers who are all demanding things be their way and bitching about every little change, in damn near every nation of the world, speaking multiple languages, all having an infinitely large number of workflows and job requirements, across multiple operating systems, hardware configurations, and often attempting to integrate it into other ridiculously complicated systems and software. Or maybe it's just because Samar the programmer forgot to please do the needful. |

All previous versions had icons that were located in an easy to find area. The first time I used 8, I felt like they tried to hide everything( which they did). Is it a cruel game to take what was so obvious and make it more difficult to find? It does the same thing, they just thre obstacles in front of you so you have to look for it. WHY??? |

So you forgot your password and it's Microsoft's fault. Got it. Wait until that Mac asks you for your Apple ID everytime you want to scratch your ass. No because I had to make an account in the first place then go through this complicated process to activate it. NO ONE else does anything so stupid when you buy a product on line. |

First of all NEVER BUY A MAC!!!!
Second as mentioned above there are free MS Office substitutes around, I've been using libreoffice and openoffice for years with no issues, and it's all backwards compatible. Also if you have a Google account you could use their "office" suite which isn't nearly as comprehensive but it does allow you to access everything anywhere you have internet on any device. Third, how exactly did she "lose Office"?? **If your tired of Microsoft and refuse to overpay for a MAC, try a Linux workstation. There are some that come preloaded or you can take a decent laptop or desktop and load a copy of Linux for free.** Just my 2cents, but I keep a Linux laptop for messing around on (since it boots in 17sec) and a Windows laptop for "work". |

I had to do a restore on her computer because of some malware. She had the free version from LSU because she is a student. After the restore nothing else on the computer was affected, but MS office was gone. Probably more Microsoft BS. She needed it quick for homework so I had to pay for it. The university will only let you download it once for free. |

With Office 365, it comes with 5 licenses. You can literally email one of the 5 license keys to anyone you want to share with. I send these license to my kids and they just log in and have access to Office and OneDrive. Plus they are all tied to the cloud so we can easily share docs. My kids sometimes have to use Google Docs for school and it's terrible. Simple formatting controls don't work last time I use it - like page numbering where you don't number the title page (docs can't do that). |

People don't spend money to buy the same old shit. Same old same old only appeases the soon-to-be-extinct dinosaurs. There is a new target demographic. That demographic knows how to use the internet. That demographic does everything online. That demographic relies on technology for their day-to-day activities. That demographic will spend money on things that are easier to use, even if it means learning something new. If you are not capable of creating an online email account to make online purchases then you are no longer part of the target demographic. You are now one of the dinosaurs. You dislike change. That means you don't buy new things unless absolutely necessary because they are different. You are evolving from a revenue generator to a maintenance expense. There is no money to be made from you. There is no point in marketing to you because you probably aren't going to like it anyways. It's different. It's hard to understand. You will eventually ask your kid what to buy. He/she is the target demographic. I have a good understanding of computers. I use them at work and home. I install what is needed and keep everything running. My main bitch was the hoops that Microsoft makes you jump through to even buy their product. I buy on line all of the time for home work gun stuff, maintenance items etc, and have NEVER had that much trouble trying to but a product. Returns with other companies are even easier than buying from their website. |

Actually... I've had many friends make the switch in the last few years. After they see how much time they no longer waste on fixing or tweaking their PC, they realize the higher initial cost is more than balanced by the lower operating cost. Time is money after all. Only one person in my circle has switched back. Your results may vary. Quoted:

Once you go Mac, you NEVER go back! Sorry dude, not true. You almost always go back ;) Actually... I've had many friends make the switch in the last few years. Tweaking or fixing? Last time I had to "fix" my PC. ummm, I can't even remember. Tweak it? Don't even remember that. You realize that by "fixing" hardware you realize that hardware is the exact same things right? Or are you saying that Apple broke through and pioneered the first ever non failing motherboard, processor, power-supply, and hard drives? |

All of my pictures, screensaver and settings are the same. This is what I like about Apple. On a PC nothing works, nothing is compatible, you need an updated driver etc. |

. http://i.lvme.me/v8ccqht.jpg You did a restore, of course you're going to lose every single application that wasn't part of the original restore disk. Your license can be used again, no license that I have ever seen (other than some really high end specific niche applications) prohibits you from re-installing using the same key.... If that university tells her she can only download once? I would ask for my tuition back and find another university.... Quoted:

I had to do a restore on her computer because of some malware. She had the free version from LSU because she is a student. After the restore nothing else on the computer was affected, but MS office was gone. Probably more Microsoft BS. She needed it quick for homework so I had to pay for it. The university will only let you download it once for free. . http://i.lvme.me/v8ccqht.jpg You did a restore, of course you're going to lose every single application that wasn't part of the original restore disk. I restored to an earlier date. before the restore it tells you that your files will not be affected. And none of them were except office. Even the reports were there just MS office disappeared |

Jesus Christ trying to buy MS points through GFWL was the most pants on head retarded experience I've ever had in regards to trying to buy something online. It was like they were trying to actively resist me giving them real money in exchange for their pretend video game money. |
