| A lot of my friends are atheist 'separation of church and state' type people (I work at a University). This week I heard nothing from them regarding the birth control Catholic church issue. However, when there is an intelligent design/abortion/ten commandments type issue going on I hear nonstop about separation between church and state. I realized that these type of people don't want separation between church and state, they want to have state control over religion. Never has their hypocrisy been so apparent. |
| Americans don't understand that we have freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. I feel like some atheists are just against religion for the sake of controversy. Such as abortion, I believe scientifically that birth begins at conception, but since Catholics think that, the atheists have to jump their shit about religion. |

When God is sterilized and removed that is a religious / anti religious action. Removing "In God We Trust" from our money would be an example of this. |

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. I'd say that requiring an established religion that has had the same tenet for decades to disregard that tenet as a result of a piece of recent federal legislation kinda does that. |

"Bark for attention"? How many Atheist super churches have you past on the road in the past few days? How many Atheist TV shows? TV channels? How many sports stars have won a game and then said to the camera "I'm an Atheist and I won this game all by myself"? Quite ironic indeed that you say Atheist are the ones who crave attention and power. |

I am a believer in religious freedom. The only mention of religion in the constitution is in the first amendment "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof” This language prohibits the federal government from establishing a state church and from enacting any law that would prohibit the free exercise of religion. Freedom of religion seems to have been misinterpreted as freedom from religion. This country was built on the idea of religious tolerance. Religion was a very big part of the lives of our founders as can be seen in their writings. I have zero problems with a legislator being religious, I do have a problem with someone legislating religion and morality. |
