I am looking for an efficient and cost effective printer to print invoices every month. I have been using a Cannon home printer but the ink is as expensive as the printer. What do I need? This is a home office and all I really need to print is black and white invoices...maybe 100 pages per month? I don't need bells and whistles, I need something that makes the best use of the ink and easy to find replacement cartridge/toner that is not super expensive. Thanks

This. I have one. It works great and the price per page is much lower than any inkjet. Works with Windows PCs, Macs, or Linux machines.

Simple Brother black and white laser. Never inkjet. The cartridges dry out even if you don't use them. Laser toner does not do that. Before buying any printer, check the price of toners. No longer made, but my MFC 8480 DN has been an inexpensive-to-operate, workhorse laser printer. There are similar machines today. Paid $299 for it three years ago, IIRC. I've made thousands of copies. |

I have the HL-2275DW and the DCP7065DN
If you don't need wireless networking for your printer, I'd recommend the DCP7065DN. It can still network wired to your router and then wirelessly to your computers, but it has an ADF scanner as well as a typical 1-at-a-time scanner. Otherwise, it's the same as the HL2280DW printer; same cartridge, scanner (except ADF), etc. http://www.amazon.com/Brother-Printer-DCP7065DN-Monochrome-Multi-Function/dp/B004ULP9QA The OEM Brother toner is better quality, but the cheapo $10 cartridges work well enough |

Figure out which ink is cheapest then buy a model that uses that cartridge. http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/2933/animplus1.gif I'd say Laser Printer if Many copies, Ink Jet if very few. A+ Certified Technician Speaking. Ink jet = Don't print for months, turn on printer, magenta is "empty" because it dried up, and it won't let you print black until you buy another $50 magenta cartridge. Fuck that noise. Laser. |

Quoted: why not buy aftermarket ink? i bought enough ink to last me over a year for $30 an its also a canon. This. I just ordered my second set (10 cartridges, 2 of each) from Amazon. It's worked out to be right around $33 for the year. I haven't printed photographs with it, it's cheaper to just have them printed at Meijer, but for everyday printing and necessary correspondence it's terrific. The printer doesn't seem to know the difference. I have a Canon MX870 |

my current brother 5250DN is still going strong after 5 years of daily use.
. I just bought the newest version of the same printer. 5450DN on sale for 129.00 amazon has it at 149.00 as the sale is over. http://www.amazon.com/Brother-HL5450DN-High-Speed-Printer-Networking/dp/B008CJ1MTE grabbed a 8000 page toner refill for 20 bucks here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A8QWZQ8/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 gonna use it as a second printer. Note this is for a wired network. there is one version up from this for wireless. for the money if you print several pages daily it cannot be beat. |

Lady at Wally World was buying a new printer for under $30. Said it was cheaper than ink cartridges so she just buys a new printer when the ink runs out. Search revealed HP 1010 at $29. That is cheaper than black/color ink for my old HP!
When you work it out by price per page, that's one of the most expensive ways to print. I'd second a laser printer. My personal choice would be (and is) an old refurbed HP. |
