I pledge alligence to the Flag of the United States Of America One Nation Under God indivisable unto the faithfull. I confirm my devotion to the principles of the founding fathers of this democratic republic That all men are created equal with equality and justice for all. I reckognize that all men have inalienable rights under GOD as brought forth and reckogniged by the Constiution of the United States as recorded by the founding fathers. And while we support the separation of Church and State as we promote no national religion we the people do reckognize the existance of a supreme being. Such supreme being to be known as GOD and to whom in what ever name known we as a nation derive ours inalienable rights. We the people understanding that Good must always prevail over evil do solumly swear to support the Constitution of the United States of America. So Help me God. Steven G Bass 1 Jan 2007 |

I pledge allegiance to the flag Of the United States of America And to the Republic, for which it stands, One nation, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All --National Pledge of Allegiance, U.S. Congress, 1945 I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all --Pledge of Allegiance, by socialist author Francis Bellamy, 1892 |
Really? I had no idea. When was it changed? |
I think sometime in the 50's. |
What, you mean to the "Under God" version? Mid 1950's, "Red Scare" era. Jim |
Did NOT know that. Thanks. |

Odin, of course. I dislike the artificial intrusion of religion into the pledge, but then I'm not a big pledge-to-the-flag fan either. My allegiance is to the ideals embodied in the founding documents of our Nation, including the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, not to any man nor to any flag. Regarding "Under God", our nation is great not because it is under God, but (in part) because the people of this nation are entirely free to choose to worship in whatever manner they desire, or not at all. |
| We should pledge allegiance to the giant Flying Spaghetti Monster...makes as much since having people pledge allegiance to "god" when they don't believe in the concept. Believe in God isn't a requirement for Americans...the pledge was just fine until the fanatics got their hands on it. |
