I have the Garberg as my do all, but I'd look hard at the Terava Jakaripuuko 110 from Finland. Cheaper than the Mora but looks every bit as good, you can find them at Varustaleleka or however you spell it lol!

I take a shortened standard machete with me when rustic camping. Cut down to about 13 inches with a shallow 2 inch clip point ground on top. The size and reground tip make it more like a large bowie, but cheap enough you actually use it and don't care. Good for clearing brush and chopping wood for the fire, etc.

Q: When was the last time you were in combat? A: During your last wet dream. I have talked to people who ran into crazies out in the wild, so there is that. Getting into a knife fight with crazies is not on my to-do list. One of the many reasons I carry firearms is to avoid scenarios just like that. In the $15-$50 GBPSE category, I'd recommend either the Morakniv Companion or Bushcraft series. They are available in carbon or stainless steel, an assortment of different colors, different blade thicknesses, and the Bushcraft is also available with a serrated blade if you prefer. Attached File Attached File Attached File I have a very hard time imagining a scenario where these wouldn't be "enough knife" for someone. |

If I had to walk out the door tomorrow and straight into the woods, I am gonna take my Spyderco bill Moran skinner...They just flat work, not the biggest, not the heaviest, but a tough stays sharp knife that will do anything if you need it to as long as you don't get stupid...
If I thought I needed bigger it would be my old coffin handle Gerber, If I was going to war, the old SRK would have to do..got a couple mora's laying around someplace as well, but the skinner would be my go to if I could only take one... Attached File |

Lots of good suggestions, but without more details its hard to figure out exactly what tasks you want to tackle.
I will offer another option and say to look into Entrek knives. And I will also plug the Battle Horse Knives, if only because Dan was a great mentor to me back when I was first getting into knifemaking. I still have the prototype of the Pathfinder he gifted me... |
