Has anyone here ever shot at a flaming propane tank?

No, but I HAVE nailed one that was not on fire dead-nuts-center with .50BMG APIT  (Coleman stove type, not home furnace type).  I have witnesses to prove it, as well.  It was at the 1st MODCC SCUBA Shoot, and one of the attendees who is no longer a member of either this board or MODCC lent me his M-82A1 for one round.

Little canister fall down and go BA-WHOOOOOOOM!!!!  The canister is still at my ex-girlfriend's house in St. Louis.  One of the best cold shots I've ever made, even though it was only from 100m.

Screw Tannerite!

They don't blow unless you have a road flare behind them.  And then they GO!

Yep!

It's damn impressive!

flares beside or behind them work good, or throw them next to the Bon fire, and pop em.

Very entertaining.

That was a sad little explosion.  There seems to be some technique to where you place the flare behind the tank, not too close or you can blow it out without ignition, not too far or you can miss it entirely, but we've had some doosies out in the desert.  Best results with 12ga Slug over .243Win or plain-jane .308 so far. Slow and violent is where it's at, even on cans of spraypaint, though .45ACP pistol ammo tends to bounce off Coleman canisters if you don't hit it perfectly square.

Can't find the images or vids of the good 12ga hits, but here's a so-so .308 hit that sent the Coleman flying past us (it's the metallic sound and scattering shotgun hulls, secondaries and resulting fires courtesy of unnecessary 37mm Pyro round):  Vid

Hard question to answer. It wasn't flaming when I shot at it, but it quickly became that way.
