That big hornet is harmless...unless you're a cicada.
It's nothing compared to the tarantula hawk wasps in Southern California. Those look straight up prehistoric. It got windy and the moth was having a hard time keeping aloft. It came in for a breather. Pretty damn impressive. |

I have a bunch of the cicada killers buzzing in and out from under my house. They live in the ground.
supposedly, the males don't have stingers and the females will only sting if you if you try to handle them. Very intimidating! Those suckers are really moving some air when they buzz past your head. |
