Best movie of the last 5-10 years?
It is for me. No poll. Just discuss. |
|
It was good.
A couple things bugged me. One was the prevalence of guns in dreams. That just seemed like a Hollywood artifact. I like guns and I like movies about dreams, but this was a strange mix that seemed audience driven rather than story driven. The second thing that bugged me was how the rules and everything were so clearly spelled out. Everything was so tightly explained that there really isn't any need to rewatch the movie. It lacked a little mystery, except at the very end. |

I dug the suppressor action in the opening action sequence. ETA Quoted:

I had the same discussion with a lady friend. The goddamn top wobbled, I tell you! How did he wake up from Saito's old man Purgatory? |

I got shitfaced with the girly friend and watched it. Big mistake. We both had no idea what happened in the movie or what it was even about.
I went back and watched it sober a few months later. I still have no idea what happened in the movie or what it was even about. |

Besides, we can't trust the top anyway since it was Mal's totem first. Throughout the movie, whenever he is in a dream he has his wedding band on, and when he's out and in the real world, he isn't wearing one. In the final scene, he isn't wearing one. Also, in his dreams he could never see his children's faces. In the final scene, he sees them. He got out. And it was a fantastic movie that required some thought. Considering most of what comes out of Hollywood is remakes, it just may be in the running for the best in the last 5 years. And about the guns issue another poster added, there are only guns when they are in a heist or danger. When he is dreaming of mal and the kids there a no guns, and the young girl architect had no guns in her dreams when she was learning how to build. |

I got that he saw the kids faces but never noticed the wedding ring. |

I thought it was stupid. Discuss. Go play in traffic. Shut the fuck up. Still talking here chief. That movie was terribad. Not my fault. Read the posts around mine. Buy your own moviephone franchise and call'em like you see'em ![]()
Remind us in future movie threads not to take anything you say seriously. |

Cobb has a wedding ring when he's in the dream world. They do a good job of concealing whether or not he's wearing the ring the final couple scenes. |

It lacked a little mystery, except at the very end. That's because you have a brain. It confused a great many people who had to watch it multiple times. |

I don't get the hype. It was an attention quiz for ADHD sufferers wrapped around a bong-hit premise. I don't need fancy, unreal trickery to enjoy a movie.

I don't need fancy, unreal trickery to enjoy a movie. I see you didn't get it. I "get it". I don't "buy it" in the abstract. This was nothing more than Hollywood's "smart" movie for the year. I'm actually glad people enjoyed it. I'm dissapointed in those who think it's a tough puzzle to decipher and derive some superiority out of having "got" a mass-market movie. Please...

Yeah, seriously guys... It was cool and I enjoyed it, but it really wasn't that tough to follow. Its not that deep and complex. I watched it a second time thinking maybe I would see new stuff... Nope, I got it all the first time. Good, but not great. Best movie hard-to-follow movie of the last 10 years was Primer. Thats a movie you have to watch several times to get everything. |

I had the same discussion with a lady friend. The goddamn top wobbled, I tell you! How did he wake up from Saito's old man Purgatory? He convinced Saito to "come back with me." Saito reaches for the pistol and then they wake up in the plane. I have assumed Saito shot Cobb and then himself, waking them both up. |

Yep, the final kicker. |

FUCK YES. If you watch it ten times, you're only beginning to understand it. Most people don't like it enough to watch it 10 times, however. I did, though. "If you ditch work this afternoon, and promise to do the few small things I ask you; I will in return show you the most important thing that any living organism has ever witnessed." Not bad for a movie that cost $7000. |
