Thinking about the defenders of this new gun bill saying, "This isn't universal background checks. This is just..."

This is just more incrementalism.

Every little bit of change in gun laws has been consistently, albeit slowly sometimes, in the direction away from liberty. The ultimate question members of the House and Senate should ask is, "Does this legislation increase liberty or government power?" (It can't do both).

Of course, the progressives of both parties are fine with increased government power. It's people like you and me who pay the price for it in further infringement.

Not to be rude, but...duh...

ETA:  This is how the left has been operating since day one.  Democrats demand "compromise", which means Republican capitulation to the Democrat stance.

This has pulled the Republicans further left and allowed statists and progressives more freedom to operate within the Republican party.  This just makes it easier every day to go further left to appear "bi-partisan" John McCain being a good example.

Yep, business as usual.  When schools in rural Montana hold mock elections and the school overwhelmingly elects Obama and every other card carrying democrat, you are damn right, we are incrementally moving towards socialism.  Kids equate being democrat to being cool and everyone wants to be cool.

Voting for conservatives is backwards, old fashioned, racist, homophobic, and just plan wrong.  We need to be educating the young people in our country or else in a few more generations they will only talk about when "grandpa" owned a gun.

Can't argue with a word you said. Even with favorable rulings by the supreme court it never seems to give
a fully undeniable universal right with no infringements. It's enough to drive you up the wall.

It's all incremental

The Lib mindset tells us that an AR with a 30rd mag is "extreme" but a  6 shot .38 and a double barrel shotgun is "reasonable"

A good portion of the public nods their head in agreement

Eventually they'll want them all and have already proposed knife bans

Hell man, every piece of shit liberal is about incrementalism.  It reminds me of family court.  The piece of shit liberal goes to court requesting 20 different things.  You go in and attempt to defend yourself from those 20 things and the judge agrees with you but still awards 2 contentions to the opposing party out of "good will."  Fast forward 3 months and the liberal goes and files a request for 25 different things.  You go in and defend yourself again and the judge, in trying to make sure there is equality, grants 5 of those demands.  Do this for several years and the other party now has all 25 things they want.

This is exactly what the liberals do.  They demand all guns be banned and confiscated.  The conservatives fight it and then settle for universal background checks.  Rinse and repeat every few years for 100 yrs and all of the sudden  they get what they want - all guns banned.

Yep, ban the semi auto rifle then when someone is murdered with a 6 shot revolver, ban the 6 shot revolver and only allow a 3 shot revolver.  Whittle it on down to a single shot and then you will be able to ban the single shot, cuase god knows no ones gonna stop you from doing it.  The govt will have full auto rifles with 30 rd mags and you have a single shot 22LR handgun.

Its the future folks but we will all be dead by the time it comes.  I just hope to educate my children and grandchildren, so they can hopefully stay true to their roots and the gun culture they live in each and everyday.
