Me and my misses got a nice old house last year and it doesn't have a strand of insulation.
Yesterday we got enough for the attic and I had a friend come over to help. We are using the rolled R30 stuff, not blown.
We laid the first roll lastnight and stapled it in but had to quit cause it was just a damn sauna up there.
Do we really need to staple unfaced insulation rolls if they are laid between the rafters? We stapled the first one but if its not needed, that's one less step and less gear to lug.

No need to staple if you are laying between the rafters.

You don't need to staple them.  How were you even stapling them?  The vapor barrier should face the living area so the paper side should be against the drywall.

You are laying it on the drywall, right? Not attaching it to the roof...

Ill add more detail

The house was build in 1910 and doesnt even have the old sawdust insulation
It has knob and tube wireing between most of the joists. Ive read some stuff on how to insulate with knob and tube
such as keep it 3" away from wires at least. Is this train of thought safe? I understand I will have to do a lot of cutting and stuffing
with this kind of wireing, which is fine with me. I believe the attic floor is made up of sheet rock, not drywall. As you may have guessed, Im new with insulation, please, be gental
