Insurance and Registration - In the vehicle or in your wallet / purse? Explain. |
|
Wallet, around here the tow companies play games when they tow vehicles. When I handled insurance auto theft claims I heard constant stories about how the tow yard would demand to see the registration before they would release the vehicle, the kicker was when they would not let the owner go to their car to get it. The owner would have to go to the tax collector and get a duplicate registration. this cost the owner to get the dup registration and also generated 1 to 4 days of extra storage charges. |
| I've been pulled over quite a few times and the cops have never asked for registration. They only want my driver's license and proof of insurance. I heard recently that they no longer need to see the insurance because it comes up when they run your plates...is this true? |

What's the point of carrying registration if you have license plates? That's like having to carry around a birth certificate with your driver's license. ETA I've been asked for registration once during a stop. I said I didn't have it with me. Cop just shrugged and said OK, maybe since there was no reason to suspect the vehicle was stolen... especially since it hadn't been reported as such, and this including who the vehicle is registered to is usually verified before a cop turns his lights on. I can't think of one goddamn reason to carry it with me. Anyway, I have to pick up some cans. |
, but I don't get stopped often, so it's not a big deal.
