i was just sitting here fondling my SA ultra compact and noticed the trigger lock key slot. I had forgotten it even had one. Does anyone actually use these things?

LOL... "fondling", as in..... [?] Nevermind... (sheesh). BTW who makes the SA ultracompact?

My Taurus Millennium has a built-in trigger lock. Do I use it? I've had the gun for 1.5 years and didn't remember it was there until you mentioned it. I have external trigger locks for my other handgun(s) and I have never used them, either. The implementation is unacceptable.

The HK USP`s have em. I have never used it. Also I was in walmart the other day and noticed a small .22 rifle that had a keyhole in the bottom of it. Looked like one of those round vending maching key types.

Yeah, and if you rack the slide with the goddamn thing on, it bends something or other so mags don't drop free with the hammer back.

I have to send mine in for service, I'm going to ask them to take the fucking thing out.

You may not be aware that they are there. Not easy to notice. All 3 of mine have them. Did you buy them new? Maybe the early ones did not have them , Not sure.

Intergrated trigger locks are a good thing.

Years ago we had segregated trigger locks, but after years of hard work, civil rights workers were rewarded for their efforts and now our trigger locks are intergrated.

I don't think I have it.  My USP 40 was purchased in 96 and the 45 in 98.  Both were NIB.

Mandated in Maryland starting in January.

Only reason I keep the keys is in case the thing somehow accidently gets locked.

I keep wainting for them to mandate keyed locks on baseball bats and large knives. [rolleyes]

My USP40C was purchased NIB in late 1999 and it does not have the lock. However, my USP45 and USP45C, both purchased NIB in early 2000 have the lock.

Glock has an intergrated trigger lock. [;)] One that IS functional, and won't leave you dead looking for a key.

California requires that a pistol be locked while transporting. On my Tarus revolver the locking device hung from my rear view mirror until people started to know what they were. Didn't want a cop doing a cavity seach or some punk to break the window looking for a pistol locked in my safe.

On the Springfield 1911's one just replaces the spring housing for about $12 or so. Easy job.

I used the one on my SA 1911 when I first got it.  I locked it, verified that it worked, unlocked it, and threw the key into a box of spare parts never to be seen again.  Same thing with the Keltec Sub2K.

This is why they come from the factory with a BIG STICKER on the grip that says,

"WEAPON IS LOCKED!
REFER TO
OWNER'S MANUAL"

If you manage to completely ignore the label and force the slide back it bends the hammer strut.  You have to force it back, not simply rack the slide.  Technically it's not a trigger lock, but a hammer lock.  It's supposed to keep the hammer from moving back far enough to engage the sear, therefore making the pistol inoperable.
