Please answer the following questions:
1} Is the District of Columbia a State?
2} Does the U.S. constitution apply anywhere except a State of the Union?
3}Why arent there any Congressman or Senators from D.C.?
4}Why arent there any Legislators,State or Federal from D.C.?
5}What laws apply to U.S. federal territories?
6}How many states signed on to the Constitution with D.C.?

These questions arose on another board out of a posters ignorance of why D.C. is not listed as a state.

Please feel free to post your thoughts.

From my understanding, Washington D.C. is not a state.  Not being a state, it is not represented in either the House or the Senate.

Just from memory, DC doesn't meet the requirements of a state in geographic size. Ergo, it is inelligible for statehood.

There may be other restrictions, but my urge to retain knowledge about cesspools isn't very great.
