As I have said in another post, I am a Volunteer C.O.P. (Citizens On Patrol).. Last night I went out (ridealong) with an Officer after the briefing and had a good time although very boring as far as calls are concerned. One thing I had fun doing was checking out a known drug house in the shadows on foot. We parked about a block away and hung out in an alley looking for bad guys. He let me play with the computer too adding our status.. (I know, whoop-de-do) What struck me as odd though was when the officer I was with hooked up with another officer and we walked a few apartment complexes. Anyone walking by was asked for ID and a check was run on them. I have never known officers to just walk apartment complexes before. Also, while driving (graveyard shift), anyone walking was stopped and run. The officer I was with also said they (the person being stopped) could just say F.O. and walk off. He said he gets at least 5 warrant arrests a week by just stopping people like that. We played with the radar gun too. He stopped about 20 cars and never issued one citation. He said he gives them a 10 mph over the limit allowance. Some were doing over 15 but he let them go too. I had a blast!. Kind of a rush for this old boy. I will definately do this again! Thanks guys for your service...Stay safe! |
