I say interesting because I was doing alot of the stuff he said most people do while squatting and didn't know it could be improved.  I was gripping wide and keeping the bar a little too high.  I also wasn't letting the bar stabilize.  I did actually add 20 pounds to my squat.

Just thought I would share.

I never really put much thought into setting up to squat untill I saw a video of Mike Tuchscherer squatting (search him on youtube). He is just as deliberate in his setup as he is in the actuall squat. Although in contrast to the video I use the two step walkout. I squat out of a monolift in competition but out of a rack in training. The two step allows me to setup as if I was setting up in a monolift which allows me to go to a meet and not have any issues. Unlike the video my two step walkout takes my feet straight back, rather than back and out as she did
.

Thanks for the info- while squatting I don't like my bar to come down quite that far - but I'm gonna give it another try- and that's one strong little woman

Why did she go so low in her World Record squat?  She could move way more weight if she went down like 1/4 of the distance.

I wish he would've hammered on the technique of pulling the bar down.  I see too many lifters who just think the bar is resting on their back and hands.  When I finally figured that out it added a good amount of weight to my squat.

That is exactly what I was doing.

I did start to cramp a little bit in my shoulder during my first set, but stretched and made my grip just a bit more wide and cleared it up.  My back felt really tight and strong when I started pulling down.

I squat like this...  It helps to have some meat on our shoulders to help keep the bar down so far.

Matt's training center (Supreme Sports Performance in Rockville Maryland) is pretty close to me. It's an old-school training dungeon with almost anything a powerlifter or olympic lifter could want. I go to his place occasionally when I get sick of the regular gym. He's a good guy and his patrons are serious athletes.

FYI- for those that lift heavy in bench and shoulder- even though I'm flexible- it put too much pressure on my shoulder gripping the bar that way and having it that low on my back. It opens your shoulders up too much for me and my left shoulder is a bit sore today after doing squats yesterday. So please be careful and you might want to consider keeping the barbell in the same spot you always have- hope this might help someone..

If you take a good grip on the bar for high bar squats that isn't too narrow or too wide and use that same grip for low bar squats you are very likely going to bother your shoulders. Low bar requires more shoulder mobility and a wider grip on the bar. Almost every squat session I warm up with shoulder dislocates with a resistance band to make holding the bar easier and more comfortable.

Thanks for the info on the stretches- I'm going to go back to my bar placement style but start these stretches- thanks again
