We are moving to a new house that is not far from a decent sized town (10K people) but is still a little out in the boonies.
For the past 2 weeks I have spent hours trying to find any sort of internet hook up, phone service, TV. I have found that I can get Local analog phone which in theory would allow me to use dial up internet as much as that sucks. AT&T, Time Warner, verizon and all of the local places in town all tell me there is no service. Dish network can run TV but nothing else. Honestly TV is the least of what I care about. I am not a tech guy. What am I doing wrong? 1 satellite dish should be able to run everything I need, What other ways around this do we have to do this. Here I have a bundle though the local cable company (cable not an option) for internet, TV and phone. Any other way to do this? I am really at my wits end on this. There are 3 dishes at the house and calling all of the names on the dishes lead me nowhere. Would a mobile computer card such as one used for a lap top work for a desk top computer? What say you guys who understand this stuff? |

Call the local cable company and tell them you are buying a t-1 for your house, and you are going to network all of your neighbors to it. They'll have internet down your street within a month.
(Slight sarcasm, but I have heard a member here say this is what happened to them...) |

You can probably get 3G service through Verizon.Their 3G coverage in Ohio is pretty good.
One of my co-corkers, who was in the same situation, went that route and is quite pleased with it. She got a router from them that has a built-in 3G modem and serves internet access to other PCs through the router. Keep in mind, however, that the service is soft-limited to 5GB transfer/month. After that, they charge you extra. |

I have tried that 4 times. Can't get through to the people in that 'section". Every time they transfer me the number is disconnected. This is still the way I am looking. Just how much is 5G anyway? 5 GB is not a lot at all. You will hit that limit very quickly browsing from a PC. 5GB is a decent limit if you are a mobile phone browser. |
