[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Iphone Case (Page 1 of 2)

Id love to just carry my iPhone naked, because it's such a work of art, but doing what I do on a daily basis makes it very impractical. I've used the otterbox case to keep the phone protected, but I never really liked it, it felt kinda cheap for a fiddy dollar case. A thread I saw on here had a link to the Griffin Survivor, and I figured what the hell, I'll check it out. I couldn't find the damn thing anywhere, so I ordered one. Fucking amazing is all I have to say. This thing makes my phone pretty much indestructible. It fits comfortably in my hand, and the texture feels perfect and doesn't attract lint, and it slides right out of my pocket nicely. EVERYTHING is protected. And they fixed the problem with the cam flap, it has a retention device built in now. No watermarking whatsoever. Oh and it's "milspec" if that's your thing. I got one in o.d., since it's the shit. Check it out-

Pretty cool. Might be a candidate for my new phone case when I get my iphone4. I'm currently using an otterbox.

How's the size compare to the otterbox?

I have one in black.

There are a few things I don't like about it though.
1) it makes the iPhone much larger
2) you can't just stick it in your pocket with the case on there
3) if you do drop it, it bounces like a super ball.

Overall, I would give it a 9/10.  I would buy another one.  I actually wish they would make the same case for the iPod Touch too and the iPad.

Looks nice.

One thing i really like about the Otterbox case is it has a special coating on the inside of the clear screen protector to eliminate the "oil slick."  For the iphone4 model, anyway.

Does Griffin do the same?  Can't really tell from your pic.

about the same size but the otterbox had flaps that over time get floppy and don't close.  I have not had any issues with the covers on mine ever not staying shut.  It works great.

I put mine in the Magpul case... Works just fine.

The MagPul iPhone 4 case is excellent.  The texture is amazing and it's easy to put on and take off.

I'd rather spend $5 a month on insurance for the phone through my carrier than carry that monstrosity around in my pocket. Of course, I don't have to worry about busting it up in the course of my typical daily activities.

Check out the videos on griffins website. They drop the iPhone from 3 stories up, huck it down a hill, throw it THROUGH a wall, throw it out of a truck doing 40 or 50, and took it through a carwash. Thing is built like a rock.

That's what I have on my iPhone.  I don't see the need to have a case that almost doubles the size of my phone, as I'm not throwing it down the driveway on a regular basis.

LifeProof cases interest me greatly.  They're dirt/dust/snow/shock/water/proof.  They demo'd it at SXSW this year.  The iPhone was in a LifeProof case, at the bottom of a goldfish bowl, and fully functional.

A buddy of mine has a battery case.

He can charge his iphone 3 times before plugging it back in.  I thought it was pretty slick.  He can go two days without worrying about the phone dying, and it charges while the phone is charging.
I cannot remember the name of it.  But I wish my droid had one.

Exactly. One of the best things about this case is no apple fanboi faggotry. When I used the otterbox it always irritated me to see that apple logo cutout. It was useless.

I notice from your picture that there isn't a camera flap on it like there was when they first came out which made taking pictures a pain. So that flap is removed? Is there something there to protect the camera? I like the look of that case, my otterbox is getting old and the silicone is starting to break down(happened to every silicone case I've had around the six month mark).

No, there is a flap. Everything has protection. If you look closely you can see the improved cam flap is folded down and retained.

Ah, so there is actually something there that holds the cover in place? When they first came out they didn't have that. If they fixed that I do believe I will have to order one up.

Yeah, on the back of my survivor, there is a little plastic female bit that protrudes through the silicone from the inner case, and it accepts a little nub on the inside of the flap. You pull the cam flap down and then push the nub into the receptacle and it stays, just like in one of my pics.

Mine is black, I stopped at the Verizon store to see what they had. I had another case, but it didn't cover it around the front top and bottom at the ear piece and the button, I like the belt clip too. It does add bulk to the phone but I think it offers great protection.

The bulk is crucial. And it's super comfortable on the hand. I personally like the bulk, I've always disliked tiny phones, and it fits fine in my pocket as I don't wear women's/skinny jeans.
