Ok I have looked every where and Can Find no information. There has got to be a way to fix this. When I plug it into my computer I get this error: One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfuctioned and Windows does not recognize it.

Now it worked fine when I bought it yesterday untill I Reset it to delete everything from the previous owner. I did that from the Ipod menu on it. Not through Itunes

Sometimes it is an easy fix..

Laptop= Shut it down, remove the battery, unplug the power supply, wait 30 seconds, put it back together, boot and retry.

Tower/Desktop= Shut it down,  unplug the power supply, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, boot and retry.

Sounds silly but it works.

Try plugging it into a different USB port. This will force a reload of the driver.

Did you try putting it into recovery mode?

Last easy thing to try is just try a different computer. That will tell you if it is the iPod/cable. System restore may help, but its a long shot.

Uninstall then Reinstall ITunes.

Don't plug in the ipod until the reinstall is complete.

If you still get the same message about the USB malfunction, go into the device manager and check what the error code is for the device.

Error Code is 34. I have uninstalled and renstalled Itunes. I have updated windows. Next I am going to Unistall all the host cotrollers and let windows reinstall them

A new computer should work. The iPod/iPhone seems very good at becoming a brick. iTunes is a worthless POS that can't even update Apple devices without fucking them up. My last iPod bricked and the guys at the Apple store just plugged it into their laptop and did a restore on it. Happened again just a month ago but I was able to restore it myself. I did an update to my mom's iPhone through iTunes and it bricked. In every case the device was stuck in recovery mode. Fuck Apple.

Tried 3 computers and it is all the same. How much did they charge you to fix it at the apple store? I dont wanna go and pay a fortune to get the damn thing fixed when I got it for an old computer
8/5/2011 6:02:41 AM EDT
[#14]
Imagine that.

They didn't charge me anything. I really wish I knew why these devices lose their mind so easily. I love my iPod but it's fickle as hell.

Well I dont have an apple store near apparently so I am looking for a friend that has a mac maybe that will fix the damn thing

Bummer. I think I held the power and home buttons down on my mom's iPhone for about 15 secs to get it into recovery mode. Might try that. Good luck man!

This. But you may not even have to uninstall and reinstall. Check and see if you have the latest version of ITunes. If not, run the update and try again.

Seems like the OS has been corrupted some how. You might be able to download the software manually and force the phone into DFU mode. You computer may then be able to see the IPad\IPhone and manually force an update. Have had a lot of luck with this.

If it is the IPad and not the computer then it won't matter which system they plug it into. So because I have worked on IPads\IPhones more then you that makes me Mr.Jobs? Since all of my company executives use IPhones and IPads and I am the company IPad\IPhone guru, I have worked on a few hundred. I am pretty sure that trumps your two times.

You're telling me my personal experience is invalid. I'm telling you it worked. ymmv. You're obviously an iPod/iPhone god and I'm but a mere mortal. Alas, we've digressed enough.

holly hell you 2 . Well here is my AAR took it to bestbuy cause I dont have the stuff at my work to check it. It has a bad port. That is why it is not recognized. So off to ebay I go with a non working Ipod touch. Unless someone here knows how to fix the damn thing and would do it cheap...... Or free

That'll work too.

I'm sure that someone will disagree but I think the port might be flaky too. I started having problems with my old iPod Touch when connected to my truck stereo. The audio would crackle and fade in and out. I thought it was the USB port on the radio but when I got my new Touch it works just fine. I just hope it's not an indication that the new one will start to crap out too.

Wow, I've never been able to permanently brick an iThing, even with installing all sorts of random hacks on it... This sounds to me like either a windows problem or a problem with the cable. Try a new cable, and then try a mac.

The data port is attached to the mainboard.  It would probably be uneconomical to fix since you would have to change out the entire mainboard just to replace the data port.

Can you see any physical damage to the port?  Bent pins, loose wafer board, etc?

Do you remember doing anything to the port that would have damaged it?

port looks good I cant see anything physicaly wrong with it. I will bust out a mignifing glass and a flash light and look closer
8/7/2011 5:17:15 AM EDT

I doubt you'll see much. I think it's a 36 pin port crammed into that tiny space.

Yeah its ok I sold it on ebay. Thanks guys for all your help though
