I was reviewing my 3rd grader's homework and on the worksheet, they were studying Cesar Chavez, and the actual assignment is calling him a national hero!

WTF?  He was a leftist labor organizer for Mexicans, not a national hero!  There are a lot of people that could be called national heroes and that fit that bill, I do not consider him to be one.

Or I am just not warm and fuzzy enough?

Comrade Ronnoc,

You must understand that the proletariat hero Cesar Chavez brought equality to the oppressed migrant workers.

Please report to the political reeducation center for the instruction in the proper ideologies.

I thought he was Mexican?

He's got a great record though. 87 KOs is awesome for a welterweight!

He wasn't a villain as far as I know.  A "hero" for labor and civil rights for sure but not a national hero.

No.  Chavez used a lot of intimidation tactics to get people to band together with him.  My grandfather was born here, but he worked the fields for a number of years, and during the time Chavez was trying to get his agenda going.  Chavez and his cronies would throw rocks and try and attack the guys that worked with my grandfather for not joining them.  The land owners who my grandfather worked for were guys who took care of their workers without needing a "movement" to tell them how to do so.

My grandpa usually just refers to him as "the asshole."

you're just now figuring out that marxists have controlled the education system for a couple of decades?

go check out whitehosue.gov and you'll see what they've achieved.

Rick Rescorla is a nation hero that saved close to 3000 people on 9/11 and I never even heard of him before yesterday, Cesar Chavez is a piece of dirt especially when compared to Rick Rescorla.

I am debating on whether saying something or not.  It is was part of a national hero a week thing and was just one small piece of a larger worksheet.

Maybe that was the best they could do to come up with an Hispanic national hero in the US?

Or maybe just a letter stating what Chavez really is, I don't know, I am so sick of the stupidity.

Tell the teachers to quit propagandizing your child, and unless they present a national hero along the likes of Buzz Aldrin, etc. then you don't want to here about any more national heros. Just wait til you get MLK, or Honest Abe then present the real facts to the teacher.

I lived in southern cali back in the 70's.  There were farm worker demonstrators at the grocery stores asking that none of us buy grapes.

I bought a huge bunch and when I left I threw them at their feet and walked away.....

As already voiced, Chavez was only a hero to labor, and certain minority interest groups.  It's unfortunate when hard working people, such as the grandfather in the above post, get swept under the rug because they didn't participate in the fight for marxist agendas.  Instead, "the asshole" is incorrectly portrayed as the savior of all Mexican-Americans.
