Nice photo at the Wailing Wall, I never knew this. Barack Obama - The First Jewish Presidential Nominee Adam Hanft Political Columnist, CEO of Hanft Unlimited Posted: June 4, 2008 04:52 PM I'm here in Sweden, where it's light at 11PM and at 4AM. That's a cheap metaphor for the illumination that so many of us feel at this particular moment. But I'll take it. Among my many reactions to Senator Obama's securing the Democratic nomination is that this should be a moment of great and cumulative joy for American Jews, who have for so long been at the fraught, ragged and dangerous edge of social justice in America. We should feel a great sense of pride in this triumph. And, yes, ownership, too –– in the best possible way, something created by participation and instrumentality. After all, Jews have been the great American catalysts for change. Not just in the way we have fought for it, but in the way that our own successes here birthed the narrative imagination that led in no small way to St. Paul, Minnesota, where Senator Obama spoke last night. We are the single immigrant group that has done the most, in the small, large way that we do, to open and change the American mind. The vast migration of Jews that left, in Irving Howe's famous title and phrase, The World of Our Fathers, arrived to find themselves much-loathed and scorned in the land of opportunity, where the streets were allegedly paved with gold. Who needed Henry Ford? Eastern European Jews were even discriminated against by their earlier-arrived German cousins. But we studied and clawed and created and clowned our way into the American center –– or closer to it, anyone, than anyone had dreamed - and by doing so earned the confidence of an open but skeptical people. We even invented the American center; a Russian Jew wrote "God Bless America". And Irving Berlin's other triumphs of harmonic assimilation, "White Christmas" and "Easter Parade" are the gentile anthems to gemütlichkeit. Obama is the heir to this. He is the beneficiary of every Jewish battle against quotas, every fight against a closed American culture, against intolerance and the brutal reductionism of stereotypes. And he shares with us the existential questions of assimilation, identity, and the gift and pain of the outsider. As the Democratic nominee he stands on the shoulders of activist Jews who have struggled for social change, who were at the vanguard of the labor movement, the minimum wage movement, the Civil Rights movement, the environmental movement, every single wave of progressivity that took this burdened but boundless country forward, away from its wounds. His journey has been the ultimate Jewish one, the child of an immigrant father who loved learning, who struggled with his heritage and then came to embrace it. And, of course, he went to law school and achieved one of the Jewish mother's iconic (if a Jewish mother can be described with a Christian metaphor) kvells of nachas: "My son the lawyer." Not only that, he did it at Harvard, and went on to teach Constitutional law, making him the closest America offers to the Talmudic scholars who devoted themselves to wresting (and wrestling) the truth out of the midrash. Text and context matter desperately to him, like they do to us. This is the framework, theatrical, political, social, in which I see the nomination of Barack Obama –– as a secular epiphany that every Jew should look at with a rush of satisfaction. He is truly the first Jewish presidential nominee we've ever had. (And let me qualify that by saying "of a major party" before the Legion of Historical Accuracy gets on my case). My description, of course, is a gloss on Toni Morrison, who famously described Bill Clinton as the first Black president. But it turns out she meant that in very constrained context: "People misunderstood that phrase. I was deploring the way in which President Clinton was being treated, vis-à-vis the sex scandal that was surrounding him. I said he was being treated like a black on the street, already guilty, already a perp." When I describe Senator Obama as the first Jewish candidate, I see that less as a political commentary and more as an interpretative understanding. Yet we're not feeling the swell of pride for one of our own that we should, and that's a great loss. We have missed the message because we are Jews who are hardwired to survive in dangerous world where our worst doubts and suspicion are re-confirmed and re-constituted by a history of breaking glass and sirens. I think it was Art Spiegelman who said that his father told him to always sleep with a suitcase packed. So we have listened to the wrong voices, tuned into the wrong frequencies. And it doesn't take much pandering to make us worry about Reverend Wright, to question Senator Obama's commitment to Israel, to acknowledge the nonsense that Hamas wants him elected. We can get beyond those lies. But what's more upsetting is that American Jews question his visceral understanding of the Jewish experience in America, a cholent of Jewish anxiety, Jewish ambiguity, Jewish self-examination. But we should not. And must not . When you see Senator Obama in the tradition that I do, such doubt becomes impossibility. He has lived the Jewish experience through his own parallel one. He is a metaphor for our suffering and survival. And he doesn't need to tell us about his Jewish camp counselor or his discovery of Mr. Roth's Portnoy for that to come alive. There are pundits who say that the election will come down to Florida, and that the Jews there might actually be dispositive. Go know. When you consider that it was American Jews of the past who made candidate Obama possible, and that it is American Jews of today who might actually make President Obama possible –– or not –– the fear and irony are something worthy of Isaac Singer or Saul Bellow. Or Sholem Aleichem: Yenta goes from matchmaker to kingmaker. In his famous letter to the Congregation Kahal Kadosh Yeshuat Israel, in Newport Rhode Island, George Washington describes his vision of religious and emotional security –– for Jews, and by extension, for all of us. Now that an honorary Jew has claimed his place in history, Washington's words of such magnificent modesty speak to us with fresh power and meaning. Indeed, they remind us, in a haunting symmetrical augury, of what Roosevelt said about the debilitating nature of fear in his first inaugural address. Senator Obama's mission can be no more clearly described than what Washington wrote to a handful of Jewish immigrants in 1790. And any Jew in 2008 who doubts or questions his ability to continue, and expand, that compact is making a tragic mistake: "May the Children of the Stock of Abraham, who dwell in this land, continue to merit and enjoy the good will of the other Inhabitants; while every one shall sit under his own vine and fig tree, and there shall be none to make him afraid." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/adam-hanft/barack-obama––-the-first_b_105135.html |

This is Haaretz Israel. I just googled it, its fascinating.
13/11/2008 Some Chicago Jews say Obama is actually the 'first Jewish president' By Natasha Mozgovaya Tags: Israel, Barack Obama Quite a few of Barack Obama's "friends from the past" have popped up recently. It's doubtful whether he even knows their names, but in the Chicago Jewish community many people really are long-time friends of the president-elect. Some of the older people in the community say that they "raised him," while others half-jokingly call Obama "the first Jewish president." They raised contributions for him, provided him with contacts, and also enjoyed hosting him and believed in his glorious future in politics. During most of the campaign, when rumors were spreading among American Jews that Obama was a closet Muslim who was more supportive of the Palestinians and was interested in granting the president of Iran legitimacy, his support among American Jews did not even come close to that enjoyed by Bill Clinton. But at the moment of truth, according to the exit polls, it turns out that 78 percent of Jews voted for Obama. Members of the Chicago Jewish community are not surprised. They claim that the Jews simply discovered what they have known for years. Obama lives near the synagogue in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, an area with quite a large Jewish population. Some of area visitors may even mistake the heavy security presence on the street for the synagogue's location - that is, until they hear about Obama. Alan Solow, an attorney from Chicago, a leader of the Jewish community and a veteran Obama supporter, was one of the few who gained access to the president-elect after his speech in Chicago's Grant Park last week. "After his speech on Tuesday night [election day] in front of hundreds of thousands people, he was the same Barack Obama I know. I think his life is going to change, but it won't change the type of person he is. Presidents tend to become isolated, but I'm confident he'll fight hard against it," he says. Solow used to live in Obama's neighborhood, and says that Obama has always had "excellent relations with the Jewish community." "As a local senator, he was very effective and helpful in what we call 'the Jewish agenda,' the community issues, values. He has always had a deep understanding of Israel's need for security. I went with him to Israel for a week in January 2006, and when he started the race for the presidency I had no doubt I'd support him. The first thing that impressed me about him was his intellect - he's one of the smartest people I've met - but he's also a warm and caring person who has a keen interest in issues that people of this country are worried about," continues Solow. "I said with a smile that he will be the first Jewish president. He also has a deep understanding of issues that confront Israel and the Jewish community. And I think his personal story reflects the story of Jewish immigration to the United States. "He was raised in a family without any built-in advantages: His father was a stranger, but with the help of a close family and an emphasis on education and hard work, he succeeded. It's the Jewish story in America. He understands it, and that's why he's so close to the Jewish community. His first autobiography is about seeking his roots and he understands Jewish people's yearning for this - it fits into his world view and it's one of the reasons for his support of Israel. When he says that Israel's security is sacrosanct, I believe him. As I know him, he won't say things he doesn't really mean. And he has a lot of close Jewish friends who can confirm this." Solow is also very familiar with Obama's first appointment - his designated White House chief of staff. "Rahm is an active member of Jewish community, his children go to the day schools and he was always recognized as Jewish when he was Clinton's advisor. But I don't believe that the fact that he's a devoted Jew and supports Israel has anything to do with his appointment. He's simply the best person for this job, because of his experience in Congress and in Clinton's administration, and because of his intellect. But his support of Israel fits with the president-elect's thinking." Michael Bauer, a political activist from the community who has known Obama for over a decade and supported his presidential campaign, says his first reaction to Obama's victory was disbelief. "It seemed like a dream. After the election, I had a brief opportunity to congratulate him, to exchange a hug with Barack, a kiss with Michelle. We're very proud of him and we're sure he'll successfully handle the big challenges facing the country and the new president," he says. "If we go back to his work as a State senator, his Senate district had a relatively high percentage of Jews, and more importantly, it was a Jewish population involved both politically and with charity organizations. When he was in the State Senate, the Democrats were a minority. When you're a minority you don't get too much accomplished. Neither Barack as a State Senator nor any of his colleagues were able to accomplish a great deal, because of Republican control of the State Senate. However, because of his district, it was always clear to me that many people supporting Barack are active in the Jewish community both locally and nationally. And they agreed about his sensitivity to a number of issues - the issue of the U.S-Israel relationship and domestically, issues that many of us are concerned about, be it the separation of Church and State, women's right to choose, etc. It was always a natural fit between the Jewish community and Barack Obama. He understands those issues. Frankly, he's so smart he understands them better than most of us," says Bauer. Identifying with Sderot "As a U.S. senator he visited Israel twice, and especially the second time I think was highly significant," Bauer continues. "I think it was important to him personally to go to Sderot and see the proximity involved when Israel is attacked on a daily basis from Gaza. I think it was also symbolic for the people of Israel and the worldwide community, as well as the Jewish community, to see Barack Obama going to Sderot and speaking about it, that as president it will be unacceptable to him and he recognizes Israel's right to defend itself. This symbolism was important on so many different levels. I've known the president-elect for over 10 years, and his values and principles never change. If you ask me whether I have confidence that he'll continue to be committed to Israel's existence as a Jewish state within secure borders - I have absolutely no doubt." "President Bush supported Israel as well, but after eight years of his support Israel faces a stronger Iran, Hezbollah at the northern border, Hamas at the southern border - and Hamas gained a sort of political legitimacy. I think George Bush was a disaster for the State of Israel. And I think Obama's administration understands Israel's needs for safety and security, the importance of Israel remaining a Jewish state, and will try to help to mediate a peace in the Middle East that accomplishes those goals. There are still people who don't believe it, but the great thing in democracy is that everyone has an opinion and you don't need 100 percent consensus. I think peace in the Middle East is one of his highest priorities - he's not going to wait for seven years as a president to start working on it." Bauer was also heavily involved in Rahm Emanuel's campaign for Congress. "Let me say something about Rahm. One of the things people don't like about him is the fact he's short with people, but it's only because he's such a smart person. He doesn't need a 15-minute phone conversation, he gets to the issues in three minutes. And Israel - it's in his blood. The fact that Joe Biden, with a long record of supporting Israel, is Obama's vice president-elect and Rahm Emanuel is his chief of staff - I'm not sure what reassurance anyone needs that the president-elect when he is president will remain a close ally of the State of Israel and the people of Israel." http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1037029.html |

Sorry, One more. This one from JEWCY dot Com
Mainstream news really missed this one! Barack Obama: America's First Jewish President! Martin Lewis Posted: November 14, 2008 06:30 PM http://www.huffingtonpost.com/martin-lewis/barack-obama-americas-fir_b_143985.html If Bill Clinton famously was –– according to Toni Morrison and many members of the Congressional Black Caucus –– America's First Black President –– then surely Barack Obama can lay claim to being America's First Jewish President! Notionally of course. Unlike George W. Bush who had no use for Jews in his inner circle ("none of my best friends are Jewish") only allowed one token Jew into his personal orbit –– the oleaginous Ari Fleischer whose major contribution to the common good was immediately after 9/11 telling all Americans that they "need to watch what they say". Alas advice that was not heeded by his goyish puppet-masters. Bush's attitude towards Jews –– like most Gentile neo-cons, fundamentalists and evangelicals –– was that they would come in very handy dying at The End Of Days - and thus bringing about The Rupture (sic) which would be the Open Sesame to Heaven. So Ari... bubbeleh... to that Texan 'yok' you were just a Token Yid to have on hand. (There was not one Jew in his entire cabinet). And you delude yourself if you think you were anything more than that. What a startlingly good contrast to look at Barack Obama's positive and ecumenical attitude. First of all one can see that his choices are based not on race, religion or creed –– but on merit and excellence. And that means that he is inclusionary not exclusionary. It is impressive to see the number of Jews that Barack (his name means "blessed" in Hebrew as well as in Arabic and Swahili) Obama is already surrounding himself with. Doubtlessly to the chagrin of the anti-semitic, right-wing who endure the official Republican faux-tolerance to Jews through gritted teeth as just one of those awful accommodations with the devil one has to make to achieve electoral success. In fairness to those right-wing nut jobs –– they are not just anti-semitic. They are anti-Black, anti-Hispanic, anti-Gay, anti-Feminist, anti anyone else who isn't like them –– ignorant white trash (of varying fiscal pedigree - you can be rich and still be trash) –– in-bred within one chromosome of insanity. Just look at who Barack Obama has already brought to his team: • Rahm Emanuel - Chief Of Staff • David Axelrod - Senior Presidential Advisor • Ron Klain - Chief Of Staff to the VP Proud Jews all of them. And look also at his impressive record of support for Jewish causes and Israel earlier in his political career in Chicago. I'd say that Barack Obama has a claim –– notionally - to be America's First Jewish President. MAZELTOV! –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Barack Obama: America's First Jewish President For heartsick American Jews, the presidential candidate feels like prophecy Bernard Avishai by Bernard Avishai, January 31, 2008 In 1963, the young editor of Commentary, Norman Podhoretz, wrote a strangely confessional article (the first intimation of what, full-blown, would become his style), which he called “My Negro Problem—and Ours.” Its disquieting point, made the year of the March on Washington, was that too much hatred attached to race for integration ever to succeed. Podhoretz offered himself as evidence, confessing to the fear, envy and contempt with which he had grown up in Brooklyn under the siege of “Negro gangs.” Those streets still seemed to him world-historical ground: “There is a fight, they win and we retreat, half whimpering, half with bravado. My first nauseating experience with cowardice, and my first appalled realization that there are people in the world who do not seem to be afraid of anything, who act as though they have nothing to lose.” His solution was radical, and a little titillating, given his admitted weakness for blacks’ “physical grace”: racism could be ended only by mixed raced marriages, what was called (though not usually by people from the Upper West Side) ”miscegenation.” Ultimately, whites and blacks would pair off, have children, and raise up a new American type; “the Negro problem can be solved in this country in no other way.” Indeed, if his own daughter should wish “to marry one,” Podhoretz wrote, he would “rail and rave and rant and tear out my hair,” but then he would hope to have the “courage,” the manliness, to do his “duty” and offer his blessing. What then of the future of American Jews? Podhoretz wasn’t sure, but then he also wasn’t sure why he should be sure. “I think I know why the Jews once wished to survive, though I am less certain as to why we still do. They not only believed that God had given them no choice, but were tied to a memory of past glory and the dream of imminent redemption.” Podhoretz thought it unnecessary to add that educated American Jews did not think this way anymore. Except for the (quaint) Orthodox—or except in the metaphorical sense—Jews did not really believe they had commandments to perform. The categorical imperative was to get a degree. Indeed, Jews now had choices, not the least of which was how to make something interesting of Jewish origins once they had moved to Manhattan—to a world far removed from the Manichaean street fights of an immigrant childhood. This was a world where (as Podhoretz would put in his 1967 book, Making It) one might give orders rather than take them, have money rather than live in poverty, gain fame rather than die in obscurity. To call oneself a Jew was also a choice, of course. His childhood persecution—a tiny American token of the immense persecution just ended—made this somewhat daring and even cool. But was it really interesting being, as Jonathan Miller put it, Jewish? Simply to spite anti-Semites? What would hold the next generation of American Jews together if organized synagogue life felt vaguely faked; if, for all the differences, one could feel oneself in a shared culture with James Baldwin—who admitted, at least according to Podhoretz, that all blacks hated whites; if the Ethics of the Fathers seemed okay, but not quite up to Whitman? “In thinking about the Jews,” Podhoretz wrote, “I have often wondered whether their survival as a distinct group was worth the hair on the head of a single infant.” Podhoretz has grown ashamed of his article, I bet, but I always thought it qualified as poignant—not, clearly, for his extrapolation from schoolyards to public policy, or his creepily sexualized panacea, or the histrionic way he grasped intermarriage. Rather, I was (and remain) impressed by the open-spirited way he questioned the future of American Jews, indeed, the way he unselfconsciously seemed to confuse American Jews with open-spiritedness itself. For the up-and-coming audience Podhoretz knew he was writing for, it was Jewish to be ill at ease, to be for the underdog and against phonies. As Lenny Bruce had it, Ray Charles was Jewish, Eddie Cantor was goyish, fruit salad was Jewish, lime Jell-O, goyish. Making sense of these distinctions made us tortured. Tortured was also cool. Was this Jewish culture? Well, it was culture made by Jews. We had Bernstein and Bellow. Roth had Bernstein and Bellow. As my late friend (and Podhoretz’s eventual foil), Dissent’s editor Irving Howe put it, American Jews lived on “the questions.” Israel, for its part, was providing something more like answers, something more resilient and demanding, rooted in Hebrew, there for the long haul if it could survive its siege. But for American Jews before 1967—whose Major Organizations had not yet turned Jerusalem into their Epcot Center—it was American liberalism that was the triumph. Israel’s victories were admired all the more because, after the European horrors, the country was seen as something that remained distantly valiant and progressive. The Weavers sang the songs of Jezreel Valley pioneers in a medley with anthems of Republican Spain. This made Israel a really Jewish state. * Cross-posted at BernardAvishai.com http://www.jewcy.com/posts/2008-01-31/barack_obama_and_new_jewish_problem |

That is my line, documented all the way back to David. The Queen of England is my 12 cousin. She is also from Judah. God took the Sceptre out of Israel. Its line was passed down from Israel to Ireland through Tamar Tephi. |

PHOTOS Obama’s Naked Jewish Mother http://www.eutimes.net/2008/12/obamas-naked-jewish-mother/ The Thirteenth Tribe http://www.christusrex.org/www2/koestler/ The Khazar Empire and its Heritage By Arthur Koestler (Jewish by the Way) This book traces the history of the ancient Khazar Empire, a major but almost forgotten power in Eastern Europe, which in A.D. 740 converted to Judaism. Khazaria, a conglomerate of Aryan Turkic tribes, was finally wiped out by the forces of Genghis Han, but evidence indicates that the Khazars themselves migrated to Poland and formed the craddle of Western (Ashkenazim) Jewry... The Khazars' sway extended from the Black sea to the Caspian, from the Caucasus to the Volga, and they were instrumental in stopping the Muslim onslaught against Byzantium, the eastern jaw of the gigantic pincer movement that in the West swept across northern Africa and into Spain. Thereafter the Khazars found themselves in a precarious position between the two major world powers: the Eastern Roman Empire in Byzantium and the triumphant followers of Mohammed. As Arthur Koestler points out, the Khazars were the Third World of their day, and they chose a surprising method of resisting both the Western pressure to become Christian and the Eastern to adopt Islam. Rejecting both, they converted to Judaism. The second part of Mr. Koestler's book deals with the Khazar migration to Polish and Lithuanian territories, caused by the Mongol onslaught, and their impact on the racial composition and social heritage of modern Jewry. He produces a large body of meticulously detailed research in support of a theory that sounds all the more convincing for the restraint with which it is advanced. Mr. Koestler concludes: "The evidence presented in the previous chapters adds up to a strong case in favour of those modern historians - whether Austrian, Israeli or Polish - who, independently from each other, have argued that the bulk of modern Jewry is not of Palestinian, but of Caucasian origin. The mainstream of Jewish migrations did not flow from the Mediterranean across France and Germany to the east and then back again. The stream moved in a consistently westerly direction, from the Caucasus through the Ukraine into Poland and thence into Central Europe. When that unprecedented mass settlement in Poland came into being, there were simply not enough Jews around in the west to account for it, while in the east a whole nation was on the move to new frontiers" ( page 179, page 180). "The Jews of our times fall into two main divisions: Sephardim and Ashkenazim. The Sephardim are descendants of the Jews who since antiquity had lived in Spain (in Hebrew Sepharad) until they were expelled at the end of the fifteenth century and settled in the countries bordering the Mediterranean, the Balkans, and to a lesser extent in Western Europe. They spoke a Spanish-Hebrew dialect, Ladino, and preserved their own traditions and religious rites. In the 1960s, the number of Sephardim was estimated at 500,000. The Ashkenazim, at the same period, numbered about eleven million. Thus, in common parlance, Jew is practically synonymous with Ashkenazi Jew." ( page 181). In Mr. Koestler's own words, "The story of the Khazar Empire, as it slowly emerges from the past, begins to look like the most cruel hoax which history has ever perpetrated." The history of the Ashkenazi Jews was widely known and appreciated in the former Soviet Union. Ashkenazi militants traced the area where the Turkic Khazars originated before their migration to Southern Russia to Birobidjan, an Eastern Siberian area as big as Switzerland bordered by the Amur river, by China and Mongolia. Around 1928 they started building settlements with the Soviet government's help and in 1934 the Autonomous Republic (Okrug) of Birobidjan Yevrei came into being with official languages of Yiddish and Russian. It is still there as an Autonomous Republic to this day, offering the only historically legitimate settlement area for Ashkenazi Jews willing to exercise their "right to return"... Mr. Koestler was an Ashkenazi Jew and took pride in his Khazar ancestry. He was also a very talented and successful writer who published over 25 novels and essays. His most successful book, Darkness at Noon, was translated in 33 languages. As expected, The Thirteenth Tribe caused a stir when published in 1976, since it demolishes ancient racial and ethnic dogmas...At the height of the controversy in 1983, the lifeless bodies of Arthur Koestler and his wife were found in their London home. Despite significant inconsistencies, the police ruled their death a suicide...Another Mossad "suicide"! |

The ancient tribes and peoples of Israel were closer to the palis and the Ashkenazi were Euro/Turk. I was maintaining that this distinction did not mean that the Ashkenazi were any less Jewish than the people of Moses, David, etc. Oh, and if you look at those pics of O's family linked above. They are clearly celebrating christmas, not kwanza, hannukah, or moslomofest. Not that this means much with commies. Lots of people that have Jewish bloodlines in their family are now either godless (I.e. Stalin) or have converted to Christianity at some point along the way for various reasons.

Ok, so what does Obama being Jewish have to do with Ashkenazi Jews being, well, not Jewish?
There is only one problem with this idea, IT IS TOTALLY BULLSHIT. Nowadays the only people who espouse it are Muslims and Nazis. SO WHICH ARE YOU!? or like I said before troofers also espouse it. DNA proves it. Also the fact that a lot of people (Jews) in Israel came from Persia, Yemen, Iraq, egypt and other middle eastern countries and had nothing to do with Northern european Jews. They were booted out of their own countries when Israel was formed. Are they fake too? Im always amazed at stupid goyim who are obsessed with Jews. You, Mel Gibson and Borat.
