Reason for asking is a guy I work with bought a Mini14 in a private transaction FTF. He asked me how he registers the gun. I told him that I didn't think it was required. He thinks he has to get it registered. This is in Ohio

Sorry, I'm in VA. Not positive about Ohio law but believe private transactions do not have to go through a dealer or be registered.
You'll probably get a 100% correct answer quickly if you ask this in the Ohio home town forum section of ARFCOM.

You can take the firearm to any FFL dealer and have them do the instant check and they will transfer it into his/her name , of course there will be a fee . Buyer should pay the fee , of course , but for personal transactions , you do not need to do a transfer.
