| So should cockfighting be legal? What are your thoughts on it? I admittadly have a bit of curiosity about seeing a cockfight and was just watching TV and it was mentioned, soit made me think. Poll coming. |
| I for one think it would be quite entertaining. Morally wrong... but entertaining non the less. One time we put 3 of those cat-face spiders in a jar together. After violently shaking them up they were biting each other like crazy. It was pretty cool as a child, but I think that this experience is where my aracnaphobia comes from. What is the correct word for fear of roosters anyway? |
|
Here's how I answer those questions......if Gramps was alive and standing over my shoulder right now......what would he think? Not to mention you left out the option on your poll of: It should be illegal, and promoters/trainers should get to spend a couple minutes apiece in a ring with Ken Shamrock.....see how they like being made to fight against their will..... |
|
I personally think it's on the wrong side of entertainment, but it's better than dog-fighting. But if you really want to take all that time and effort to train a chicken and hope it makes it through the first match or two. Hell, it's your chicken It's culturally acceptable in some places, not in others. It's more real than professional wrestling. It's a good way to get illegal aliens in a group for the Border Patrol, now we just need to La Migre to show up. It's got to be way down on my list of things to worry about. |

I would have come in here and made some smart-ass comment about it being sort of gay for two dudes in the shower to cock-fight, but looks like I'm a day late on that. As for giving a crap about cock-fights, come on, it's a chicken for hell's sake! It's the moral equivalent of pitting the mighty worm on a hook against a rainbow trout. I don't care if one, the other, or both die. They are just noisy, feathered shit factories with less brains than a cockroach. |
you sir, made my day. Fucking brilliant. |
Is that the George Washington who owned, sold and worked human beings as slave labor? Just clarifying. I base my morality in easy terms....not George Washington's. Do I get pleasure from watching things kill each other in an unnatural environment? No, and to do so is wrong. Do I own other human beings, and do with them as I please? No, and to do so is wrong. You can justify either, if you want to bad enough. But, you'll be rationalizing something that is at its core against natural harmony. Even George Washington was capable of being a shitbag, in spite of his contributions to this country. |

As a child, my grandpa gave us an old Leopard hound which we named Jack. A finer hunting dog never lived and most every Sunday night when we came home from church, Jack would be waiting by the back door. Dad and I'd change into old clothes grab up a couple 22 semi-auto rifles and the 3 of us would take the walk across the pasture, crossing a creek and into the woods behind our home. Jack would tree a coon and dad and I would chase it out onto a limb, (by shooting behind him) which we could shoot off and then Jack and the coon would go at it. Having witnessed this staged fight between dog and coon on many ocassions I can honestly say no dog or cock fight I have ever witnessed came anywheres close to the raw viciousness of those sunday nights growing up. Next sunday night, there Jack would be on the back porch, chopping at the bit for his weekly bout. He was my pal and best friend and together growing up, we played hell on squirrels, rabbits, possums or deer, ya simply told him what ya wanted and he'd tree it or run it over the top of ya depending on your choice. Exposing a pet or animal to the viciousness I've noted above for the benefit of the animal's pleasure is one thing, but making money off the misuse and mistreatment of animals tormented into becoming killers is flat wrong in my book. Some animals, it's true have a fighting nature as a part of their DNA but there's a fine line between right and wrong in regard to this topic and profiting from the results is where I draw the line, YMMV. Lesbianism?? My father brought home a chick he found along the road in the middle of nowhere. This was a game cock. The next spring he was mature and whipped every rooster we had. the next few springs all the roosters we had we his decendents. We had cock fights ever day. I would come home and have 3 dead roosters in the yard. These roosters were half game and half bantam and would fight every day all day. We ate lots of chicken those years. |
When I worked in Georgia about ten years ago some coworkers of mine used to give their fighting dogs cocaine before each match (probably use crank these days) They invited me a couple of times but I never personally attended a fight, sounded like a great way to get arrested. As far as the ethics of animal fighting I couldn't care less one way or the other, not my problem.

Yep. Chickens aren't considered animals in La so we still have cockfighting. I've been, my brother fights 'em. Not my cup of tea, but harmless. |
Ummm..... Roosters fight to the death without us starting it. Putting them in the pit just allows people to bet on it. |
I don't condone cock fighting, but the evil bastards will kill one another if you don't thin out all but one rooster. Rooster is dead whether you put him in the pit or the pot. In a perfect world roosters wouldn't kill each other. I find the pit to be repugnant, but the roosters are hard wired to fight to the death. |
