I ordered from discount tire direct and no shop wanted to install tires they didn't sell me. So I lucked out and Direct Tire did it for me, I am hoping they will say yes to mounting and balancing just one though.
Thanks for all the thoughts and kind words as well. I should of known better not to stop at this mall. They have tiny island scattered all around the parking lot and barely any room for cars to pass by. It just makes it that much worse that these tires were only installed a month ago and I got an alignment done as well. Guessing that's good and fucked now too. $300 to mount and balance all four plus the alignment. $255 for a brand new tire now. The kicker is the rear one has a similar crack in it, but I don't hear any air hissing out of it yet. |

I hope that is just a deep scratch at the bottom of the damage on the rim and not a crack or you will need a new rim also. Quoted:

Ugh... looked closer, and that does look bad, definitely go over that rim carefully. Quoted:

Quoted: side walls can't be fixed. if it's in the tread, it's a maybe depending upon how close to the sidewall it is. middle tread blocks are usually pretty safe to patch. No shop worth its salt will patch a tire with a long split like that... belts and cords are busted on there, and you would end up with a bulge at the location of repair. |

Maybe you got sold junk tires? |

If you get bubbles you may just wanna order two. Or do the bubble test and post a pic of that tire too. Can't promise but I've worked on and around cars most of my life and I'll give an opinion at least |

Quoted: I see lots of replies saying 'Nope' but no explanation. Does it look like the bead's broken, or what? Just asking to understand this better. ANY damage to the sidewall, and a tire is considered kaput, you cannot reliably patch it because the sidewall flexes too much. |

Good news is the wheel isn't cracked. That was just junk that got built up when the curb rash happened. Catastrophe avoided.

The sidewall sees the most stress out of anywhere on the tire and once it's compromised it will never be as strong again. Some tire shops won't even patch the tread area if the hole is big enough. |

Tires are only patchable in the tread area. Quoted:

The shop I bought my truck tires from wanted $30 a tire to mount and balance and I told him to piss off. $300 would have me madder than a queer with tonsillitis on Valentine's Day. . An alignment from Ford Dealer here is $50 or $60. |

You can get Wal-mart to mount and balance a tire for less than $15. It ain't rocket science. What kind of tire is it? Size and brand? My 275/60/R20 tires for my full sized truck were $180 each for a name brand tire. |

Sure they'll sell you one tire. If nothing else, jack the car up, take the tire off and have a friend give you a ride to have the tire installed as a single carry-in/out. Quoted:

I've fixed a tire with a rip in the sidewall of my tractor but it doesn't exceed 10mph, and that's being generous. With a sidewall on a passenger auto nope, out it goes as far as getting it fixed, as long as you didn't fubar the rim, it's no big deal getting one tire mounted and balanced. |

depending on what you drive and how you drive it, i would say maybe if you really wanted to.
I was in the same boat you are in about 8 years ago, just bought some brand new BFG'S at $250 each and not a week later i was going throught some brush and snagged a railroad iron that had been cut with a torch right in the sidewall. Tore a nice hole i could put three fingers in. Took it to several places and no one would even touch it, which is understandable, but then i found a hole in the wall place and asked for a boot and a tube, something i have done many times on tractors and ATV's. They did what i asked and the damn tire lasted 45k miles until it was time to replace them all. It was a 10 ply tire on a 3/4 truck and i left it on the back and never hauled anything so it had very little weight on it. Some will call me an idiot, but knowing i would never load it down and had it on the back i rolled with it, and it worked, plus it was a huge ass boot

for even asking.
