To the cops who have posted above: Not all of us think like that. You and I are all, to the best of my knowledge, citizens of the United States in good standing. Any qualifiers we add to this should be based on our conduct as such, not our career choice. If I stick around here long enough, I will end up using the phrase "jack booted thug". I may use it in jest, or I may direct it to those who I feel have earned the disgrace it connotates. Take it for what it is. Do LEO's not have favorite phrases or expressions they use to describe unsavory elements of society? I'm sure you do. Whatever they may be, I'm betting they wouldn't offend me, unless I heard them being used by the JBT's. (Ok, sorry, had to throw that last part in) Anyway, not everyone on the other side of the blue wall hates you guys. Personally, I think it has to do w/ the fact that some folks just can't stand interacting w/ other people on the other guy's terms. For instance: Replace "cop" with any other profession whose members bother you for some reason. Now, most of the time, I think you'll find the reason you dislike that profession is because you had to deal w/ its members on their terms, not yours, whether they be lawyers, bankers, car dealers, judges, contractors, travel agents, whatever. |

A while back, I had a thread titled something like, "Do You Have a Problem with Authority?". I theorized that those that hate cops are the same ones that felt that their teachers were "picking" on them, hated their Sergeants in the service, had trouble on their jobs with their bosses because the bosses "picked on them"., etc. Got a lot of interesting responses. But one of the Moderators wisely noticed that the same ones that hate authority in cops, were the same ones that always complained about the Board Code of Conduct and were always having their threads locked, etc. I'm sure there are a few Jack Booted Thugs wearing a badge, but it is a very small percentage. The vast majority are fine men, and I respect them for the very difficult job they do. |

Well judging by the level of sarcasm illustrated by our LEO's members in this thread I would have to say that the "Us and Them" mentality is alive and well. My definition of JBT: Any cop etc who would say they saw a car cross the yellow line just to pull over(insert minority, or other derogatory term her) because they "knew" something was up. Any cop, etc who believes that because they are in a position of public trust and authority assumes they are somehow not accountable to the same laws as non-leo's. We all know the type. No need to go into detail. The sickening thing is the good cops go out of their way to protect the bad ones. Scumbags do that. |
