Reminds me of a young Bruce Willis (circa Die Hard) and is a very good action movie star.
At the moment, I can't think of any other actor who can top him in this genre. Your thoughts? |
|
Quoted: he plays the same character in almost every movie, not very versatile.. I agree, and I think he can get away with that, because it is his own character that he plays, more or less, with just some extra bad-ass confidence thrown in. The sort you get when you are acting rather than doing it IRL. I like him though. |
|
Quoted:
he plays the same character in almost every movie, not very versatile. His best role was in "Snatch" as the boxing promoter. He is entertaining without question but most of the movies featuring him as the lead are very mindless. Agreed, give me a C. Walkin or H. Keitel any day. |

So does Danny Trejo, Adam Sandler, and just about every other movie star. Can anyone imagine Saving Private Ryan with Hugh Grant? You know why? Because he plays a spineless, stuttering pussy. That's his job. We have come to expect movies about certain subjects to star certain actors. The days of real versatile actors like Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks, Harrison Ford and even that pussy Sean Penn are over. |

OP, be honest, you like him for the abs don't you
His abs are pretty good but I think he's the best of the current crop of "action stars". So many actors have aged out –– Harvey Keitel, Schwarzenegger, Willis, Stallone, et al. Statham is a likable everyman type of guy, someone who you'd like to have a beer with and bitch about your wives. |

I enjoyed all of the movies he's been in, especially the Crank series

Am I witnessing another AR15.com mancrush in the making??
I've only seen two of his films. Transporter-terrible film, and the bike pedal scene? Ah, no. All I remember from the film was there would be lots of chasing/shooting and then everyone would stop to fight it out hand-to-hand. I didn't care for the pro-illegal immigration bias, either. Death Race- An OK film and a birthday present on DVD from the stepson. The cars were the stars of that film, though. And joan allen. An attractive older woman. |

You mean that you haven't seen Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels or Snatch? Nope. I don't watch a lot of movies. |

Gary went from the BAD GUY in movies to MORALLY AMBITIOUS in movies. I think the change came after he was Gordon on the latest Batman movies. But like the Sutherlands he is a great actor and tends to keep a job. |

Robert De Niro is also versatile in my opinion. |

I enjoy his movies, (with the exception of his latest,,,what's the name...You see the boom microphone at least 7 times in the films) but he is as others mentioned a one-act-Charlie. He's kind of like the British Nicholas Cage . . . .
Check out a very early Statham film called "Ghosts of Mars." Fucking awful!!! Hilariously so. For clarity on how ridiculous it is, it also has Ice Cube in it. |
|
he is the best modern action star today. Yes his role is always the same. tough guy with major skills in ass kickery. I don't care. I like those movies and he is damned good at that role. Nothing is worse than watching a shootemup ass kicking movie and the main character doesn't sell you on being a badass. That's why I hate so many westerns. I love the idea of tough guy cowboy but they always cast someone who is not convincing as a badass. When Statham is in a movie I know Im in for a good mindless thrill ride. |

I wonder how much can be blamed on the actor and how much on the studio, casting, agents, etc? Maybe he is incapable of other roles, or maybe those are just offered to other guys. Wasn't he in some movie about a bank robbery, that wasn't a stinker IIRC. Sometimes 120 minutes of mindless entertainment is all that I expect from a $1 redbox rental. |
