Need some help with a question about removing the emision controls system from a 1995 Jeep Cherokee. I know its not legal and of course I would not do it , am just wondering. I have been told that I could remove the complete emision control system and the vehicle will produce more horsepower , increase fuel mileage and the onboard computer will not be affected. Any of this true?? Thanks for all replys. Para |

Sometimes. By letting the motor breathe better, you definitaley get more power, but i am not experiencing any increase in mileage in my ram--- (still has the computer, but no catylitic converter.) Some engines need those computers to keep the engine running at its max, and some are just there to *protect the enviornment*. |
| It won't work. If you remove ANY sensors, the computer will go into fault mode. You would have to remove the computer(s), and all sensors as well. The motor won't run that way. You would have to put an aftermarket ignition and fuel injection kit (or carburetor) on it. By then you've lost whatever fuel economy you ever had, and it will cost a lot more than you would gain by doing the mods you mentioned. The computer needs input from the sensors in order to make it run. Whomever told you that crap is an IDIOT. By the way, it's not illegal to do any of this stuff, it's just illegal to run it on the road if you do. |
