| Thinking about getting one for the wife, good idea? |

We drove one, cheap garbage, sub-kia level quality. Helicoptering in and tossing a penny into the thought pile here - From the looks of it, it is designed to be a less expensive vehicle, in an ocean of what appears to be soaring vehicle prices. (I saw the price on Suburban the other day. Wow. Saw the price of an FJ cruiser that was outfitted the way my 07 was. There's like 9k extra on that sticker.) It's designed to be cheap and functioning, and it appears to deliver on that no? |
| Wife has a jeep patriot, which is built on the same chassis. I like it well enough, is it a grand Cherokee level SUV - No. But it gets close to 30 mpg and has nice traction control for snow covered roads. My only complaints are the small gas tank (like 13 gal) and it's a little noisy at freeway speeds. But it is a 4wd SUV for the price of many sedans. I would look at getting a patriot, I think they look better than a compass |

There are plenty of cute-utes available nowadays - Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander, Subaru Forester - any one of which would be more reliable and fun to drive. |

Yup. If you're after an Dodge Caliber with a little extra Bling, nothing wrong with it. But it's not a Jeep. Quoted:

JINO Jeep In Name Only Yup. If you're after an Dodge Caliber with a little extra Bling, nothing wrong with it. But it's not a Jeep. Some say that about the 4-door wranglers. That said, OP, if pricepoint is a concern, have you considered a used vehicle? While it's used, some low mileage cars are pretty much barely broken in (unless they've been abused), you might be able to get "more features" at a lower pricepoint, with the tradeoff of it being owned once before. |

One loose wire that rang the open door chime only when I made a LEFT TURN |

As with most auto threads, there is a vast difference between thoughts of those who actually own& operate one and opinions of those who dont. GD surprise! That said, I Wanted a 4x4 commuter car that got good gas mileage. I saw one a coworker had & inquired- he loved his & 30mpg. Knowing my 98 Intrepid, my 02 Liberty, my 06 Pacifica & my 12 Town & Country had cost me all of a couple hundred bucks TOTAL in repairs in the last dozen years I went and bought one with barely a test drive. I bought a 13 Latitude with the OM package. I have almost all the options they come with. Keyless remote start, DVD/Satellite, electric sunroof, UConnect, heated leather seats, EVIC. I think the only thing I dont have is factory GPS (with factory bluetooth who needs it?) and power drivers seat (with one driver who needs that?). I like the package, Im "OK" with the MPG. Its lacking in major power, but it moves along ok. My #1 issue with this vehicle is the 13 gallon gas tank. I can go to work & back all week, but then it is off to the gas station. The best part was the price. Sticker was 26 iirc, I was OTD under 20k. |

The four door wranglers are more than capable. |
