Wife and I just moved to a rental home after selling our house.  Our renters policy won't cover her jewelry because there isn't any more coverage left for riders because of...cough...some things I may have prioritized on there.

Has anybody ever purchased a stand alone policy of jewelry insurance?  Any experience with any specific companies?

You should be able to get an inland marine policy from your provider.

Came here to say this.

An Inland Marine policy will also cover firearms you have yet to lose in a tragic boating accident.

I have a USAA policy on my fiance's engagement ring.   Full cost coverage over loss, theft whatever. $46 a year.

I've never heard of an 'inland marine policy'.  I'll have to check into that.

I have a separate policy on my wife's jewelry.  It is less than $100 per year.

Full replacement of anything lost/stolen.

State Farm.

Never needed it.  Hope I never do.  But, that is what insurance is, right?

I haven't heard of that policy; interesting. I just took the certificate to the insurance company and purchased a rider.

You Said: "Our renters policy won't cover her jewelry because there isn't any more coverage left for riders "
I've never heard of this??

When we Moved from our FL home to another State––I insured with Allstate for Renters With increased coverage for:
Sporting equipment
Jewelry
Artwork and a Few others.

Typically the only insurance one can buy for Jewelry is a Ryder from your existing insurer.

I imagine though some big insurer like Loyds of London might grant coverage,  If not get a Safe deposit box––a Huge One––like me...

ETA: Most Chicken shit insurers are scared to death when it comes to insuring expensive Watches, Jewelry, etc.

Good Luck!!

Just talked to my agent about covering my guns at a higher rate, when I first got insurance only owned a few guns, now own 20+, including an FAL, an AR-15 or 3, and an AK that I just picked up, I asked because I'm renewing and he said it would not cover theft up to what the collection is valued at. He stated that he knew an additional rider for jewelry usually ran about $1 per $1,000 of jewelry's value, he estimated the additional rider for my gun collection would run about twice that. This was a ballpark he used for jewelry, but he said that an additional rider could be added to most policies that didn't have enough coverage for a particular group of items, I am adding the rider because they only cover $1,500 for gun thefts, no matter how many. You should be able to add the additional coverage on her jewelry this way.

I get $5K with my policy and $2K on firearms that added to the NRA's coverage and I'm OK.

Last weekend I shopped four different insurance companies and they were all within $100 of each other annually.

BTW, I own three retail jewelry stores and we use them for everything. Many of my customers use them and they are the best company out their for private jewelry insurance. Good luck.

If any of you fellers keep precious metals or generous sums of cash in your gun safes, you may want to review your policies coverage on those as well.
