would you even consider a company that initially screens you by making you record video of yourself answering questions? You are given 30 seconds to read the question off your phone or computer, look at your webcam, then a timer counts down from 2 mins , and you can only submit your answer once, so no do overs.

It is not a live Skype interview . There is no interaction with a person

Depends on why.

Did they ask you to make a video sitting on a leather couch in a small white office?

Would be fine, especially if it would be a long drive to where they would otherwise hold the interviews.

video that is now the property of a 3rd party company.

apply for a job in the future

wonder if they can pull the recording of your botched video recording you did 10 years ago.

maybe they can sell videos to other companies who are doing background checks on potential hires.

If you record it yourself, you can make it look as good or poor as you want.

Use generic answers and don't say anything that you may regret. No problems.

no, not a skype interview because one party is too far away

its a pre screening, where you video yourself answering questions in front of your computer or phone

That's the company I'm not working for.

How about working for a company that puts you through a polygraph and sends federal agents to interview your scoutmaster, 6th grade teacher, the county sheriffs ... and then has you expose all your finances, school grades back to kindergarden, criminal, and civil court records. They fingerprint you and delve deep.

Please, it's a video. Not your SS number. Going through the hiring process is a pain in the ass. Going through some videos is just a time saver. I have interviewed people via Facetime before.

I've been on  Skype live interviews. Not sure if they were recording it.

No problems. I was offered the job - both times.

just to clarify - I'm not talking about a skype video interview with another person

We've been burned by candidates where they have someone much more knowledgeable than them take tech interview. Then they are hired and it's clear immediately they don't know what they're doing and weren't the person on the phone. Indians do it all the time.

Do video interviews now.

No big deal, no difference if they did it on Skype or face fo face.  Its a weeder to see bow you react to stress or can think on your feet.

If it gets me thru HR and onto a hiring manager even better.

IMO.

Very effective way to weed out lazy applicants.  Also means you'll probably have less competition for the job.

Type of job matters a lot here.  Are we talking $20-30k or $100k?  If this is your next step in a well paying professional career absolutely do it.
6/10/2017 1:02:05 PM EDT

My current employer does that, just do it, it's meant to filter out the psychos and you can't go forward in the hiring process if you don't.

Some moron in HR dreamed it up.

The hiring manager gains nothing useful from it but it is required by the almighty Human Resources.

You realize that if the interview takes place in a one party state (NY is one) they could record your phone or in person interviews without your consent or knowledge and do the same thing.

Just saying.

I can think of far, far more intense, stressful, and invasive interview processes that involve months of preparation.

Seems like an innovative way to keep fat asses , antifas, quirky, manager haircut, and wierd beards away. I'm all for it.

Personally I like board interviews. Some dread them but it gives me more than one face at a time to connect with. I've always done well at them.

It's not client facing front office job; more middle and back; pay is around 100k. Non managerial. Experienced, not entry level.

All three of those statements contradict each other.

Blacklivesmatter, Matressgirl, and Francisneedstolightenup interview with MrRogersNeighborhood.

BLM claims disrespect and racial slurs, Matressgirl claims virtual rape, and Franciss claims selfdefense as the reason for choking Mr Rogers.
