What happened to actually talking to someone after they submit a resume, i currently am working in cellphone sales and applies at another company and basically failed their personality test they want you to do before they consider you. Except since i started at this company I've been top in sales each month, and only am looking due to a possibility that our store might be closing due to merger issues. Would this be better handled by going in and talking to the actual store manager instead?

The ability to recognize and manipulate test awnsers is probably a good indicator of a salesman.  It's cell phone sales, man, not nuclear engineering.  Tell me you didn't reference the pony...

We have a very tight knit team in my small department.  If you get past a phone interview with my manager you have to interview with my entire team, 8 people 2 at a time.  If someone doesn't like you you don't get the job.

Funny you mention it...about to start one here in a few minutes. 4 batteries of tests...plus a 30min video of "here's who we are and what our culture is"

Looking forward to it

I like the question from a scale 1-10 how well do you remember things w/o writting them down.

I write it down.

20 questions later " from a scale 1-10 how well do you remember things w/o writting them down."

No, its these "strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, strongly disagree" type tests.

the ability to do well on these tests is now just another skill you must exercise as part of the job hunt

learn what answers they want, and above all keep your answers consistent.

Since all job applications are online, they probably get a lot more applicants than the old days of having to get off ones ass and actually go fill out applications.  So they have to weed out as many people as possible with automated processes.  That's just how it goes these days.

Did you ask for specifics on what areas you "failed" to meet their standards?  If not, try to find out.  Be nice and professional about it, "I understand the decision has been made and I appreciate having had the opportunity to apply, as I wish to continue my career in sales please share with me what areas I need to improve on"  It's your test, you should be able to see the results.  Then you know what to say on the next one.

Yeah...that was fun. Wooo...

Well...let's see...

I'm an ISTP (yup..nailed that...).

On Team Dimensions Profile I'm a Refiner tending towards Executor (ie...I like to analyze stuff. Find flaws. Objective/systematic/logical)

The Workplace Personality Inventory was...interesting. I guess I'm a highly analytical asshole that doesn't give a shit what people think. (way too many things on that way to go through here...funny and interesting, though).
