Anyone else see it?

Directly above us here in VA right now. Bright "star" in the evening sky.

(at least I think it is Jupiter)

My 4y.o. saw it first....  I had to go in and get my glasses.

Only "star" visible right now.

Slowly moving (not discernible) East to West.

DARK here now... other stars are visible.

Jupiter is still almost directly above, but just past "high-noon."

Not jupiter, probably Venus or Saturn.

Use this website to get a good in-view picture for your area.  Use # of time zones west or east of Greenwich Mean Time to figure out your location.

ETA:  From the looks of it, it may even be a conjuction of Saturn & Venus.  That would produce a pretty bright object.

should still be fairly close to the horizon I think.

Venus would appear slightly blue, Saturn would look slightly oval with the naked eye, binoculars should show "ears" and a telescope sure shows rings. Jupiter with binocs shows four of the how many moons? It's not dark out here yet.

All I could find was this:

Seems to suggest Jupiter.

I just checked....I think that's Vega that you're seeing.

Jupiter just got above the tree line here....it's certainly the brightest thing in the sky tonight

It's in the south east sky, fairly low still.

If you can't find it, look sort of westward to find the Big Dipper (everyone knows that, right?) and then turn 180 degrees around and Jupiter is right there.

Almost due south now?

I see something very bright, low in the southern sky. Yea, that is much larger than what we say earlier.

Thanks!

Should be more SE like NoVaGator said.  Look at it with binoculars to be sure .  It will be a disk and if your skys are good enough you can see the galilean moons.

Got it...

I mistakenly thought my house faced due south.

Yep thats it.

I'm going to be checking Jupiter out this month with a telescope and try to catch one of the moons transiting across it.

Btw the object you mentioned in your original post I'm sure was the star Arcturus.   You can check later by following the arc the handle of the big dipper makes and it will lead right to it...."Arc to Arctures"
