Tom hanks is a POS and you people give your money to his films which make him stronger. He swings from Obammys dong and you clamor to see his movies.

You're essentially supporting Communism/Marxism/ Socialism, you see as just a movie but its much more in the long run.

You do realize with that mentality you would never be able to watch a movie ever again?  Hollywood is full of libs and there is no way any movie will not be "supporting" at least one.

Also, by that logic, the movie was directed by Clint Eastwood.  So it's kind of a wash, eh?

I think the number was 155, but if you think about him turning back it would've likely killed many, many more. I suspect that the primary decision in landing zone was to prevent the loss of life of people not on the flight and that he likely didn't expect to survive the ditching.

Seen the movie last Saturday.  While I liked the movie, and I knew kind of what it would be (like a Flight part 2).

They did a good job with it, however;  This CGI stuff is getting carried the fuck away.  Some of the simple flight shots are CGI and they could have easily filmed these.  This is a Tom Hanks/Eastwood movie after all.

I would give it a solid 3.5 stars out of 5.  It CAN wait until blue-ray.

In good conscience, I can no longer support Hollywood. The carbon foot print of each movie made is unmeasurable. From making the movies, travel, electricity used, fuel used by 100s of millions people driving to the theatre, plastic toys to promote the films, is there a industry that has a larger carbon footprint? If there is I can't think of any. Hollywood is destroying the planet and I will have no part in it.

Uhhhmmm... yeah....

Clearly you don't understand why what he did was so impressive. He actually landed a passenger jet on water without losing a single person in an aircraft with two disabled engines, which was unprecedented. He did all this with a 30-35 second window to make the correct decision to either attempt a return to LaGuardia, try for another airport or put it in the water. He's a fucking Jedi.

Thanks for your contribution to the conversation.

SPOILER ALERT

Well, if the movie is accurate (IF) there was an indication that the left engine was still operable. It was lost during the landing but after recovery it was found to be indeed damaged by the birds. Which means he made the right choice. That's the big reveal at the end of the movie.

Thanks for contributing to the mediocrity of America.

My take-away from it was that, in a completely unforeseen and largely unforeseeable situation, a whole bunch of people, instinctively and competently, did the right thing. EOS.

Understand that there's a bit more to it than that.  The NTSB routinely takes months to years to issue reports on even the simplest of crashes.  It's not just that the engines failed, it's why.... and that rabbit hole runs deep.

Pretty much any high profile crash is going to review:
The aircraft itself including manufacturing and maintenance data, interviews with maintenance personnel etc
The pilots, including what they were doing before the flight (well rested?  Illness?  Drunk/on drugs?) their records, logbooks, checkride history, and in the case where the pilot(s) are deceased, interviews with family, fellow aviators, flight instructors, etc.
Radar studies to observe the track of the aircraft
Recordings from air traffic control and the cockpit voice recorder
Review of flight data recorder
Review of meteorological conditions at the time of the accident
Study of human factors, and this is variable and can be things like cockpit visibility, or was the sun in the pilot's eyes, etc
Survivability factors, such as how the aircraft's structure behaved in the crash, evacuation, fire, etc

The goal of all of this is to determine why the accident occurred and what could prevent it from occurring again.

The NTSB report for flight 1549 is over 200 pages long.  I would encourage you to at least skim it.

From what the Arfpilots have told us in other threads, pilots and NTSB like to pic apart EVERY millisecond of the flight and crash to try to find "lessons learned" to share with the aviation community.

Did the movie indicate whether any of the NTSB investigators were pilots or prior pilots themselves?  If they weren't, then you have a bunch of amateur armchair quarterbacks looking for any way possible to hang the pilots from the lamp-post, especially since it cost the airline a multimillion dollar jet (AFAIK, commercial passenger jets aren't designed for double-duty as submarines).

I know from personal experience when an agency like the NTSB, USCG, FAA, etc investigates you they do their damnedest to make your life hell and hang you out to dry no mater what you did. Even in Sully's case where everyone lived because he did everything right, they will still try to hang you.

I've been done watching Tom Hanks play Tom Hanks for years.  Don't hate the guy, but never saw him as a talented actor.  Of course if you play a retard or fag you're gonna win some awards.  Also not big into "fact-based" movies, at least recent ones.  Give me a documentary, I don't need Hollywood's phony drama, politics, love stories, and revisionist history.

Some movies I have NOT seen (and don't plan to):

Ray
Walk The Line
the Stephen Hawking one?
Pearl Harbor
Red Tails
United 93
"Truth" lol
Fury
W
Snowden
Titanic
Camp X-ray
Green Zone

...and many more I'll think of later

Fury was pretty good.

The thing that set me off was when Hanks said FBHO should be elected a 3rd term if he could make it legal

Fuck you Tom

Tom Hanks?   Don't give a shit!  Hollywood elite, so no surprise he's an Obama lover.

Regarding the incident:

No one should try to second guess a pilot's decision in an emergency.  He has only one chance in seconds to make a the right decision.
..............he made a gliding engines out landing to water in a jumbo jet from low altitude and everyone walked away without any serious injuries.  His decision making process was correct and very few pilots could have pulled off what he did.

Had he tried to return to the airport across the City with both engines out, all on the plane would certainly have died and countless numbers on the ground as well.
