Thought I'd share my findings in case someone else could benefit from them.
I purchased a new to me 2014 Jeep Wrangler Willys edition 2 weeks ago. The Jeep only came with 1 key.
Knowing my past record of keeping up with shit... I deffinately need another key! So I drive on down to our local Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep dealership and inquire about getting another key and some touch up paint (for rock dings). Guy at the parts counter quotes me: $170 for a key, $145 to get it programed, & I'll have to take it somewhere to get it cut..... . Um....I don't thinks so!!
Here's what I did: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KTHZMPM?tag=vglnk-c102-20 2 keys for $29.95 Took them to a locksmith and had them cut. $6 including the price of an additional door only key. Took the 2 newly cut keys to a separate lock shop who had the necessary coding machine/scanner $45/key
All in, I'm at $125.95 for 2 new coded keys and a door key. Hell of a lot better than $315 for 1 coded but uncut key.... |
| Grasshopper, you have shown much wisdom in buying extra keys. There was a ladyat my workplace who lost the key for her 11-year-old foreign POS (Subaru IIRC)... cost her over $900.00 to replace with ONE key! Her car was left for 3 or 4 nights before she could get a key. |

. Um....I don't thinks so!!
