I bought this one right when they changed to the series II. It has about 5k trouble free rounds through it. The slide catch is popping up and holding the slide open every other round or so. What can cause this? Is the plunger spring weak?

Slide spring is weak and if it has the extended slide release they are often out of spec.

had the same problem with mine once.

Forgot to add.

Sometine the slide release sticks too far into the feed area, a round can bump the tang that the magazine follower raise to engage the slide lock on a empty mag, make sure the slide lock is within spec, it should just barely engage the mag follwer, too long anf a bullet nose will lift the slide lock.

I had the same problem with mine.  I got this one from Wilson Combat and have not had any other problems.

So my best bet would be to buy a new slide catch lever/
