Why is it so damn expensive?

$1700 for a coat? No insulation, just waterproof? WTF?

My Olympia is awesome, I wear it down to about 35 degrees, 3 layer system rocks, giant vent panels, not hot unless it's 90 degrees.

Any Klim wearers here?

They're trying to milk you.

Sorry, it was a play on words but our guys who were PoWs in Germany used to call powdered milk Klim, a dry milk product marketed by Nestle.

Have a pair of their gloves I won on instagram, size way off, gauntlet cuff too small to fit over jacket, closing strap too short to properly close.....
Gave to my son for yard work...

You can't blame Klim for selling at that price if people will pay it.
Its the fools that pay the price that are laughable..

I have a Badlands Pro.   It was expensive but not that much.   The materials and construction are great,  features and fit are awesome,  and the flexible armor than turns rigid on impact is pretty sweet but it's still pricey.

I guess if you can find something better, as good,  or almost as good for cheaper then get that.

Since they were acquired by Polaris, I have seen the price go up and the quality take a hit.

Its a shame because they made/make some really nice looking stuff for the adventure/dual sport market.

Double Post.....

I'll add that their strictly moto gear was a nice option for those who didn't want the bright and crazy patterns that most moto gear companies put out.

I wear 2 versions of their off-road pants (Baja and Dakar) going on 5 years of hard desert riding.

Also Forecast rain jacket and pants that are 100% waterproof.

What I have is excellent gear and worth every penny I paid.

Good stuff, but that's not why it's sooo expensive.

High fashion, all the cool moto/slednecks kids ar doing it.

There's lots of mfg's out there making just as good equipment at a fraction of what klim costs.

I've always liked moose for off road myself, I've owned some Olympia stuff, good shit.

When I'm on a sled I'm usually wearing burton, all my stuff works, just not very fashionable

I have a pair of their pants. Got them off ebay for $125 used (looked unworn)

My custom fit Motoport jacket and two liners was only $750.

I, too, have the Olympia AST.  Bought it back in 2007 for a couple hundred bucks.  Still going strong today after ten years of riding.

But can I get the gear with a nice orange stripe so I really knock it out of the park on our next bro ride?

I'm on 8 seasons with my climate jacket, free ride pant, and boots. The stuff works man. I can ride trails all day or get off trail and sweat like crazy. Then get back on the trails to get home and not get cold. The stuff pulls the moisture away very well. The only problem I have is with the pockets. As the moisture from you gets wicked away, it gets wet in the pockets. So my phone always has some moisture on it when I take it out of the pocket.

There are some online dealers that sell it around 25-30% off.

I think of my Klim stuff as GAP or LaRue are to the bolt or AR rifles of the market.   And as you dress for the slide, you want protection that is tougher than you are.

When i came back from Afghan in '12 i did a moto/fly fishing trip up the CDT--then turned west and went some more off roading, camping, and fly fishing thru ID, OR, and down thru CA.  Riding my Bavarian Camping Tractor loaded with my fat ass, camping gear and fly fishing gear.  It was great.  Three get off's--two in the sand and mud between Grant's NM and Chama.  I've convinced my Bandlands jacket and pants armor kept my ride viable.  Also wear some decent Sidi boots and a Schuberth helmet.  Ride is a older 1150GS before they went all plastic/carbonfiber and electronical.   No i don't park at Starbucks ;-)

take good care and keep the rubber side down.  (tight lines too!)

If a GoreTex jacket is going to fail, it's going to be a the seams, and that jacket appears to be more seam tape than anything else.

It's hard to beat the simplicity of an Aerostich jacket.

I've been looking at some new gear. I found a website called www.burnoutitaly.com while watching some utube videos. I haven't bought from them, so I can't say anything pos/neg about them. I can say if it's in stock the price is much better than other places I've seen.

edit..lol I went to the site...they don't sell Klim, it was Held I was thinking about. but still worth a look

I remember reading a book about Colditz prison, back when I was a cub in the early 70's.
A lot of the photos were labeled with 'Klim' in them.
That was back before the intertubes, and it took me forEVAR to puzzle it out.

I wear Badlands Pro jacket and pants.  Fuck three layers. Once you go gortex, you don't go back.

I had a three layer jacket and one ride in UT was miserable. Hot, cold, rain, sweaty, clammy back to cold then hot again. Fucking miserable.

Badlands pro. Hot? Open vents on the fly. Getting cold? Close vents. Starting to rain? Who cares, let it rain. No clammy sweaty feeling.

Don't try and shame me for buyin good gear. It would amaze you how little I care about the opinions of strangers on the internet.

I've got the Klim XC pants and jersey.

I have to wait until I recover from my shoulder surgery before I can try them out though.

And OP go be poor somewhere else. If you want top of the line, you gotta pay to play.

I only wear Klim. At the end of the day when my friends are cold and wet, I'm dry and warm. I've had the same jacket and coat for 10 years while my friends have went through several pairs. Is it expensive? Not when you think about your ROI.

Next year when I start riding motorcycles I will be buying a Badlands jacket and pants.

Nobody was trying to shame anyone for anything. Insecure much?  Goretex alone over a t shirt will be cold in 35 degrees at 60 mph. Goretex is not an insulator. Get over yourself

I know  guys will drive a beat Toyota Camry with 220,000 miles on it  to Key West  Florida, on  worn out tires, and refuse to  replace the  front brakes because  " The car ain't worth  as much as a brake job "...
Some people need a new  Escalade every couple years.
  Frugality works  for some people..
 .
.
My   Riding coat is  " FirstGear" Rainier,  now 7 years old, and in need of replacement.
KLIM is too rich for me, probably get another First Gear, maybe  Killimanjaro this time.
