| Has anyone ever had a torn meniscus removed from their knee? Not the whole thing, but just a torn "piece". Are their any major problems afterwards that would limit you from doing anything in particular? I've been pretty lucky in my life and have never had any kind of surgery or ever been to a doctor for anything other than a check up, so just wondering about the after effects. I tore it about a month ago and this swelling deal has gotten on my nerves, as I'm not used to being limited because I'm on my feet about 90% of the time at work. I'd appreciate any input. |

I had about 20% of my left medial meniscus removed, and had some other work done in there at the same time.
Was out on a boat fishing 3 days later, light jogging 2-3 weeks later...running competitively in road races a year later. Simple, routine surgery....hurts for a day....about the same level of pain as a bad toothache....fine after a few days. Sensitive to low-pressure (like rainy days) for about a year afterward....then even that faded away. Just do it....you won't regret it. |
| Over the past couple years I've squatted down a couple times and it's like it "pops out of place" and when I would straighten it out it would pop back and be fine or maybe just a little sore for a day. But a month ago I squatted down (not thinking) and it popped a lot harder and wouldn't pop back right away. Then swole up and couldn't straighten my leg for a week. Had MRI and doc said one of the meniscus' basicially tore down the middle and is only attached on each end and the piece has folded up in between the bones, thus causing the pressure. So I'm supposed to go in next friday for the surgery and the doc is going to cut out the piece that that has folded over. |
| i had repairs of torn meniscus in each of my knees, a couple of years apart. my surgeon also did some scraping to clean out osteoarthritis. both surgeries were very successful, both were day surgeries, only 3-4 hours from the time i walked in the door until i walked out with crutches. almost no pain afterwards, and i was walking without crutches in about a day. if your knee is really bothering you, have the surgery! |

On my second ACL replacement in my left knee - meniscus removal both times. Probably looking at a 3rd meniscus removal in the near future................... Surgery is easy, recovery is easy - get it fixed. Brian When you say meniscus removal , you mean clean up right? Not remove and replace? |

Yes, I have had it done twice (repair), once on each knee, and to show you how old I am they were done before arthroscopic surgery was common. I have huge banana shaped scares on both knees.
Glad I did it, since I eventually recovered. My 85 yo Dad had a knee done(repair) last year, and recovered much faster than I did when I was in my 30's. Surgery moves on. Mike Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

DO IT , I limped around for OVER a year HOPING mine would get better. it didn't
Had surgery , Doc told me , take it easy the first two days, thrid day on, do what the pain allows. Third day I worked an 18 hour day , building a MX track and managing the race. 100% after that , looking back I WASTED a year of my life waiting for it to heal GET THE SURGERY |

| I had a decent sized tear in my left meniscus, and my recovery time was awful. It was almost a year later till I was able to run again. Took months before I was able to walk normally. I'm very resilliant to pain, and this was the most painful thing i've ever done/felt in my life. It took over a month before the swelling even went down 1/2 way, and this was with constant icing all day. I did my physical therapy. I wish my recovery was as quick and painless as you guys. It's been about a year and a half, and I still get pain/stiffness every so often. I wish mine went as quickly and painless as you guys did. |

My first ACL tear included torn meniscus in 4 places. I'm not aware of a complete remove/replace procedure short of full knee replacement. Brian |

I had my left knee done in October. Took about 3 weeks to fully recover.

I thought you had a inside scoop |

Could it be that you had calcium build-up and a bone spur had formed? They scrap thoes. |

Quoted: I did, 100% recovery. It was worth getting gone. I limped for 18 months, had the op and was fine in a couple of weeks. Same here. The physical therapy was pretty painful for a couple of weeks, but it healed up pretty quickly. Torn meniscus and they smoothed the inside of my kneecap. |
