Everyone is always posting the tacticool knives, but is anyone still into real knives?

My grandfather was realling into knives and carving and gave me several of his pocket knives.  I'm just now starting to try learning a bit about carving and it's been really fun so far.  Was wondering if any others were into pocket knives and carving?

I've never seen sheaths like eli10's which have the hole and holder for the end of the grip.  Who makes them?  Do they hold the knife securely?

eli10, can you or anyone else post pics of those types of sheaths with knives in them?

Thanks.

The are Morseth Safety Lok.  Harry Morseth patented them in 1953.  They actually have a fiber insert that the knife locks into.  The tab with hole is a secondary holder.

I've got a little Case jack knife (peanut?) that belonged to my dad. I like it but I'm always afraid it might fall out of my pocket and get lost. I usually carry a Victorinox Cadet that kind of fits the same role for me. I've been wanting to get a Case Stockman with an awl though.

The guy that made it for me calls it a rat-tail.

I believe he said it is a take-off of a Brazilian street fighting knife.

Yes, glad to see all these.

Last Easter at a friendly get together we got to talking knives. I brought out a handmade quality fixed blade. Some kid whips out a Made In Taiwan assisted opener, slaps it down on the table and says "It's legal."

I own 3 Case pocket knives - the Hobo (fork/spoon/knife), a blue Mini Trapper and the Carhartt edition Stockman.  I like them all.

Maybe pics later.

Not into carving, but I like the classic pocket knives and have a cigar box full of them.  The tactical looking ones do nothing for me.

Unfortunately the makers are getting fewer and fewer with a lot of the good classics now being made in China.

I'll be honest, I'm a little jealous of that you've got a Praetorian.

Wanted one thefirst time saw it, but it kinda seemed a little impractical.

I actually rotate between a small Sebenza and a Hinderer XM-18 for EDC.  I have a box of Benchmades kicking around as well.  I just feel that the traditional stuff is more interesting to collect.

I have every fixed/folder tactical knife in the book, but recently got into the traditional stuff.  Just bought a buck 105, 119, 120 and 110 folder.  I really can't believe how robust that 110 is.  They do make great hand-me-downs.

I used to carve and whittle a lot. Relaxing and I should take it back up.

Nice knives from your grandfather.

I like a nice clip point blade for whittling.  Good for details.

I have carried a larger folder in my pocket with a clip for quite sometime.  But I always like having a smaller stockman or Barlow style around.

2 Randalls, 2 Chris Reeve one-piece hollow handles (I'm afraid to use, as they are no longer made & collectible). Fallkniven, multiple tactical folders....etc, etc, etc

And I use the scissors on my Victorinox Executive key chain knife most, multiple times through the day.

3 more years to my Randall 26 in stag.

I like the Case slip joint, non-locking kinves & carving. It reminds me of a more "civilized" time when gentlemen carried such items & .25ACP & .32ACP were enough for vest guns & pocket pistols.

Oh, the good ol' days!
