I have the LAN cable plugged in from my cable modemn, the connection icon shows that it is connected, but it is not connecting to any sites when I click on the explorer icon. I have typed in ipconfig at the command prompt and it seems like everything is in place with the Ip address and what not.

It only shows a very little amount of data recieved as opposed to data sent when I click on the connectivity icon though. Can anyone diagnose this problem for me or give me some suggestions, I am starting to get pissed and I am thinking about throwing my PC out the window.

Two things;

do a "ipconfig /all" to confirm:

1- You have the right DNS addresses and that these are responding to pings
2- Verify you have the correct gateway IP address (your broadband carrier's gateway not your own local firewall/router if you have one). Ping it.

Those are the two easy, simple steps to be done.

Can your PC ping the router?  Can it ping the routers default gateway?  Can it ping things out on the big bad Internet?

Are you running a software firewall?  Assuming you're running Windows, the Windows firewall loves to turn itself on and start blocking all sorts of things... make sure it's off.

1. Turn off modem
2. Turn off PC
3. Turn on modem
4. Turn on PC
5. Open command prompt - IPCONFIG
6. Ping the modem (the default gateway from IPCONFIG command)
7. Type NSLOOKUP WWW.AR15.COM  - you should get the IP 69.95.2.67

Let us know what you get.

Try to unplug the cable modem and let it set for 1 or 2 mins.  Then plug it back in, let it do its bit test and try again.  Cable modems do that sometimes.....well, they do to me

ETA, man I guess I should type faster

Yeah, I've done that multiple times and it dosen't help, I am at work right now, so I can't do anything right this minute but I am printing off stuff left and right to take home to try, including this thread.

By "unplug" he means the power, not just the wires between it and your PC. (Sorry if this was obvious.)
